Berra, Murphy and McGoldrick Fit for Reading Trip
Thursday, 10th Sep 2015 14:19

Christophe Berra, Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick are all fit and available for Friday’s live Sky game at Reading (KO 8pm), while Teddy Bishop and Kevin Bru will play for the U21s at Birmingham on Monday.

Murphy had been out with a calf problem, McGoldrick missed Ireland's games due to a groin injury, while Berra, Bishop and Bru had been out with hamstring problems.

“Daryl’s fine, David McGoldrick’s trained this week, none of them trained last week, those two were injured,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “Christophe Berra’s back after his hamstring, they’re all fit.

“Teddy Bishop is training, he’s fit, Kevin Bru is fit, but they won’t be involved this weekend, they’ll be playing in the U21s at Birmingham on Monday.

“If I need them then for the following games they’ll be fine, they’ll be back at it. We’ve got a full complement, it’s great.”

Full-back Jonny Parr played for the U21s earlier in the week and the only players still sidelined are Luke Hyam, who underwent knee surgery in the summer, and Luke Varney, who is set to sign a contract once he is over the torn achilles he suffered in the play-offs at the end of last season.

“We’ve got two long-term ones, Luke Hyam and Luke Varney, who are still in rehab, they’ll be back November time, that’ll be great,” the Blues boss added.

Berra being back is massive. Really missed him against Brighton. And our defence did too. That international break could not have come at a better time...

Looks like a win for us then, haven't we won every game Berras played in?

So much more confident with Berra at the back

Think this is the first time since the end of last season that Varney has been mentioned as one of our players.

Ferdinand and McShane aren't the biggest of centre backs so Murphy could really dominate them, Berra and McGoldrick back too is great news!

Len - when Malarczyk came on vs Brighton he played at CB and Chambers switched to right, so if he played that'd probably happen, however I doubt Mick will drop Smith yet

Fantastic news regarding Berra and the others. I think Berra is the one we missed most. He wasn't playing against Brentford or Brighton. We know what happened in those games.

We are going to win tomorrow!

You forget about Varney... He will be a massive plus for us when he comes back!
Another dimension we can go in!

Full squad to attack the next block - let's go!

Obvisouly not this week, but for me...

Bialkowski
Chambers Berra Smith Parr/Knusden
Fraser Bishop Skuse Oar
McGoldrick Sears

but great that we would then have Murphy, Pitman, AMN, Bru, Malarczyck, Toure plus the young'un all as backup!

Superb news that all our players are getting back to fitness. It is important that we keep a fit squad during the season in this very tough league. Berra back is most important and when Bru is back fit I will be a lot happier as we miss his energy and the enormous amount of ground he covers. Lets hope for a positive result at a graveyard of a ground for us. Six points lost to them last season which proved very costly in the end.

Great news. A Friday afternoon piss up followed by three points and a sing song. Where is the majority going on the sauce before the game ? I have only ever been as far as the three guineas at the station. Would be interesting to see a juicer with a bit of pre-match life before the game for a change.

Just had a look at the betting for tomorrow's game. Not that I know anything about betting but it looks to me that Reading are favourites to win. Is that right, or do they always make the home team favourites to win?

Great news that Berra is available.
MM has got some thinking to do as regards who plays upfront but it is wonderful to have the options that we now have.
Looking forward to it.

I have a feeling MM will not start Berra and try to give him another 4 days off is possible. If it is not working out he can bring him on but my gut says we will try to squeak by with Chambo and Smith and balls pumped over their head, hopefully Bialkowski will play high enough to deal with these!

Excellent news. Berra was a huge miss against Brighton. The Polish chap looks decent, but will take time to settle. Up front ... I like our options, but not sure id want to be the manager who needs to choose potentially just two!

Hurray!...as others have mentioned having Berra back is a positive, the defense really needs to sort itself out and if it does we have a good chance of staying where we are in the league. Like to see Murphy have an injury free run and get some what back to full fitness and hopefully he'll add to our decent options up front.

Getting there with squad fitness thankfully. Bru with Skuse or Douglas is a better combination but Bru will play a full U21 to try to get back up to speed. Would like to see Oar coming off the bench for longer than he got on Tuesday.
