McCarthy in No Rush to Loan Duo
Tuesday, 29th Sep 2015 06:00

Town boss Mick McCarthy says he’s in no hurry to get youngsters Josh Emmanuel and Josh Yorwerth out on loan, although he would like the duo to go out on spells in order to gain experience.

Right-back Emmanuel, 18, and 20-year-old centre-half Yorwerth are unlikely to see much first-team action in the immediate future with the Blues now out of the Capital One Cup.

“I spoke to Josh Emmanuel and Josh Yorwerth and said ‘Don’t be having your agents in my ear hole asking if they can go on loan immediately that we’re out of the Capital One Cup’," McCarthy said.

“Let it settle down and see where we are. There’s an international break after the Blackburn game and then I’ll decide, depending on the club, where it is and who it is and whether it’s going to benefit them, and benefit them so it benefits me and the club long-term.”

He says he has no plans to send out recent signings Piotr Malarczyk and Tommy Oar: “I’ve no intention of loaning them out. I think Piotr Malarczyk has been the captain of his team [Korona Kielce].

“I think he’s found it an experience [since he came here]. I was talking to him today and how they played in Poland and they sat 22 or 25 yards outside the box. My team doesn’t, we squeeze up and we follow people in and we have to track runners.

“So that’s unusual for him, it’s alien, it’s strange, but I like him and I don’t think there’s any doubt that he’s going to be a good player for us. He was the captain of their team, he’s 24 and he’s played a lot of games.

“Josh Yorwerth was in the U21s at Cardiff last year, he couldn’t have seen himself playing in anybody’s first team, let alone against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

“Likewise with Josh Emmanuel, he’s had a face like a slapped backside since I left him out of the team and I kept saying to him, ‘Look, you'll get your games’ and, of course, there’s a big grin on his face having played at Old Trafford.

“But he might not get a game now because I’ve got Chambo, I’ve got Jonny Parr, who is fit, so we may get him some football on a loan deal, but we’ll wait and see.”

McCarthy was pleased with Australian international Oar’s debut at Old Trafford and also to have a winger in his squad who is a permanent signing rather than a loanee like Ainsley Maitland-Niles or Ryan Fraser.

“I was aware of that when I spoke to Marcus and it would be nice to take one who is our player,” he added. “They’re our players for the season but going onwards who knows what will happen.

“It seems a long time away but I’ll be sat here, hopefully, next season and we’re a Premier League team. We might not be able to do anything with Ainsley or Ryan Fraser, but Tommy Oar I was pleased with him and he’s got a lot to offer.

“I thought his dead ball deliveries were terrific, and we’ve not had a specialist, if you like, that puts it on blob every single time.

“Ryan has, I would say, and I would also say that Ainsley has, and we scored quite a few goals off Ando’s freekicks and corners last season.

“But it’s nice if you’ve got somebody that you know puts the ball down and you know where it’s going to go.”

McCarthy admits it won’t be easy to keep his entire squad happy with no cup games in which to play his fringe players until the FA Cup third round in January but he says their performances in the Capital One Cup have shown he can trust them if they’re required for Championship action.

“Impossible to keep them happy, except for how the place is, the atmosphere of the place, the team spirit,” he admitted. “The likes of Tabby, for example. He’s out of the team and I spoke to him and he said that it’s fine, 'Don’t even think about loaning me out, I’m not going anywhere. I love it here, I’ve no intention of going anywhere'.

“I said ‘Brilliant, I’m glad you’re not looking to get out the door’. Great support because for somebody who hasn’t played, he was different class the other night [at Old Trafford].

“You can’t keep them happy, ‘I want to play’, that’s the answer you get off them. I say ‘Well, that’s OK’.

"But the difference is if we have got three games in a week I know I can actually call upon them and play them and be confident in the knowledge that they’re going to be comfortable playing in the team.”

To be fair if we keep conceding like we are they are very much needed! Berra and Chambers need to be feel under threat from somewhere

agree 100% blueherts. Our defence has shipped a lot of goals recently, and we look like we will continue to ship more.

Berra hasn't had a good season to date. Chambers isn't a right back. Think there is plenty of opportunity for these 2 to force their way into the side. Think we look much more balanced when Emmanuel plays anyway as he is a natural right back.

If I was Emmanuel I would be pretty angry also. Given Chambers performances at rb (average 5.12) this season its glaringly obvious he's not up for the job. I rate Chambers, but in a cb position not the rb role. Teams know our weak spot and every game they play it down their left wing, knowing they are likely to create a chance. Sticking with players is well and good, but its proving costly to our goals against stats. Emmanuel must be watching these games week in/week out and wandering how its possible that he's not a starter.
Emmanuel, Chambers, Smith, Knudsen for the next game. Give Berra a rest.
And 1 of Skuse or Douglas to start in cm. Too similar and we end up lacking any creativity.
Berra needs to realise that he isn't undroppable and that will make him raise his game,

Then you have to remember Emmanuel versus Brighton. He's still very young and won't always perform at the level required.

Parr for me at right back not been treated well by MM at this club better player than Cambo not done much wrong when i have seen him play much better with ball at his feet gets forward and doesn't hoof all the time ..but hay that maybe why Mick don't rate him as high as Cambo.

Absolutely right Fixed_It. Emmanuel was taught a harsh lesson against Brighton and as a result Chambers looked poor at centre-back trying to cover.
When Chambers went to right back, he restricted LuaLua's contribution.

Berra and chambers ought to be the ones sitting it out at the moment. They are costing us points

He's going to wait until 9:30 at the earliest before sending Yorwerth to Crawley Town.

Crikey, how quickly would he ship them out if he was in a hurry.

He managed to get Yowerth a loan in approx 3 hours and 42 minutes.

From what I can see we need to keep both the Josh'.
Yowerth is worth a start straight away.

Doom and gloom. 15 points from 9 games second highest scorers. We all wanted MM to set up more attacking and that's what he's done. We aren't gonna win every game or play teams off the park. It's far from perfect but a decent start. We're not even out of September yet. See where we are at Xmas. We won't be far off I'm sure.

Thought the recent blog on playing a territorial rather than a possession game was spot on. The big problem with playing that way is giving the ball away too cheaply, which is why you come away from matches and hear supporters saying ''why are we always playing so many 50/50 balls out of the Back Four''. O.K. we have been unfortunate in not having a playmaker in central midfield in recent weeks with injuries to Bru and Bishop but until we start keeping hold of the ball and playing simple passes into the midfield then we are inviting more pressure onto the Defence, with the inevitable slip up likely to happen. Saturday's game was a prime example. I also thought we played with no tempo to our game which made it easier for Bristol City.

Like most supporters I believe the Back Four is long overdue for some tinkering and I'm at a loss to understand what Johnny Parr has done wrong. When we had him playing at right back last year he was excellent and the Team did well. Mick and Terry have made a lot of improvements to the Team and bringing in the two wingers (four if you include Toure and Oar) has given us supporters hope and belief for better things to come. I just hope that we not reverting back to last season's style of play of continuous long balls, because although we scraped into the playoffs it's pretty obvious to most supporters that playing possession football, as did Bournemouth and Watford last term, is a much better recipe for automatic promotion.

I am afraid that we will; that style of play is McCarthy's comfort blanket and like a child at times of stress he will always go back to it.

Perhaps Mick actually thinks that players sign in the hope of a couple of appearances a season in the Capital One Cup? Game time for us in matches that matter is the only experience that really counts. If some aren't cutting it, others should have a chance. Performances like Saturday's are not going to get us into the play-offs, never mind the automatic promotion positions, so what is there to lose? Choose on form and ability, not favouritism.

Regardless of results, I just find it depressing that, with probably the largest and most talented squad of first team candidates available in ages, the defensive and midfield selections for Championship matches are so unbalanced, unimaginative and predictable.

Still, only been going for 55 years, what do I know?

Absolutely agree Portman(so were you 51,when you started posting on here?
Mick is becoming quite predictable in what he says about the opposition(bigging them up),also
Never seems to be too upset with bad performances.
Clearly has his favourites, yes allow them a game or two to find form;but not months
Still manages to say that Tabby different class.Often praises(usually same players, even when they havn't played particularly well)
His teams play too much hoofball, which on Saturday was pointless as the ball simply came straight back again.
Finally says about good team morale.Surely players like Jonny Parr,Toure,Bart, the two young fullbacks,Kevin Bru,James Alabi.Tommy Oar and Piotr Malarczyk cannot all be happy when they see Chambers,Berra,Murphy,Douglas ,Gerken and Skues playing week in week out?Oh and I forgot to mention Didsy who despite being the best footballer on our books(Ryan and Maitland-Niles are on loan)is also in and out of the side.
