Chambo: We Can't Wait to Get Back in Action
Wednesday, 18th Nov 2015 14:11

Town skipper Luke Chambers says the squad can’t wait to get back to action having ended their disappointing run of form by recording back-to-back victories prior to the international week.

The Blues face manager Mick McCarthy’s former club Wolves at Portman Road on Saturday.

“We’ve had a good break but all the lads are raring to go again and we’ve trained well,” Chambers writes in his column in Saturday’s match programme.

“We seemed to have got back to our best in terms of being more solid and hopefully we can continue that against Wolves.

“The two wins against Bolton and Rotherham were huge and the [5-2] win over Rotherham especially was us playing as we know we can, and in truth it could have been a lot more than five.

“We’ve got a number of players edging closer to fitness and they will be like new signings for us. The two Lukes - Hyam and Varney - are progressing very well, Bish is still to feature this season and we’ve still got Ryan Fraser to come back.

“I’ve spoken to Ryan a few times and he’s itching to get back and play. He’s obviously been back in Bournemouth but he’s just got his head down, got on with his work and he will be a big addition for us when he returns.

"He's another character around the place and it will be great to have him back soon."

Fraser damaged knee ligaments while away with the Scotland U21s at the start of October and was ruled out for around two months.

Hyam underwent knee surgery in the summer and Varney ruptured an achilles during the play-offs with boss McCarthy expecting that the duo will be involved in U21s action this month.

Once he is confirmed fit, Varney, who is currently a free agent, is set to put pen to paper on a permanent deal with the Blues having been on loan last season.

Bishop missed the start of the season with shin splints and hamstring problems and Town have been deliberately taking his rehab slowly but, speaking before the international break, McCarthy said he expected the 19-year-old to be close to being ready for a return to action this month.

For Wolves, keeper Emiliano Martinez is a doubt with a thigh injury, while defenders Ethan Ebanks-Landell and Kortney Hause have been ruled out of Saturday’s game due to metatarsal and hamstring injuries respectively. Forward Bjorn Sigurdarson is not yet ready to return after a back injury.

Newcastle United defender Mike Williamson has extended his loan at Molineux until January.

Meanwhile, former Town boss Roy Keane says he could fancy a return to club management following Euro 2016.

Keane, currently assistant to Republic of Ireland manager Martin O’Neill, said: "I think that Martin knows I have that ambition to get back in the ring. I certainly want to stay on for the Euros, then we'll play it by ear.”

The 44-year-old’s last job as boss was his 20 months at Town which came to an end in January 2011.

Saw Keane's book which includes his time with us in the True Crime section of a bookstall in Lincoln last week-seemed appropriate.

I think Roy Keane would make a great manager!
Let me think.......how about Norwich? If he fooks that club up like he did ours, then that would be great!
Only one club in the whole of the football league & non-league deserves that man! Other than them, no way pedro!

It will take either a very brave person or a lunatic to emply Keane as a manger.

If I was to be very very charitable and if I was to take off my 'keane ruined the club I love and set it back a decade' hat I would say that Keane demands the same high standards as a manager to what he played at whilst at Man U. He only turns into a luntatic when he realises that players in the championship can't play to those standards. Frustration gets the better of him. He needs to manage in the Premier League. But no chairman or CEO will employ him whilst in that league.

I am a forgiving person. If Paul Jewell returns to management I wish him every success. He failed but at least he was man enough to accept responsibilty and admit that he failed. Keane always blames others and never accepts responsibity when things go wrong. For a hard man he [Keane]is somewhat of a coward - when things go wrong Keane runs away and ghost writes a book. How many times in his books has he nearly hit people? Pablo. Mourinho, Mick etc etc.

And whilst I'm ranting the thing which also annoys me is that as a pundit he comes across as someone who knows what they are talking about. He knows how to frighten people and thats about it.

As a club we were very patient with this idiot and in his book he pours scorn on us by saying that we lack passion for our club. Absolute ****

Rant over and now I feel better. Good Day.

Will be interesting to see how "raring to go " the lads really are, because we are usually really poor after any International break. You can usually tell within the first 5 mins of the game if the team are going to turn up. I hope we break with tradition on Saturday and do Wolves, but if im being honest I'll be very surprised if we do.

The Keane lines are a great diversion from the article from our 'captain' who is not even in the team on merit

Looking forward to Wolves game. As for Keane, a good Manager is one that understands people and gets the best out of them. Keane was a bully and if there was a register for such offenders he would be on it. If he ever came back to Portman Road with another team his reception would be on a par with what would be metered out to Sep Blatter. Both have a deluded sense of their own ability.

Agree with ArnieM about our chances with Wolves.

As for Roy Keane. Seriously?

Let's not get too carried away. We've beaten Bolton and a Rotherham in freefall. Wolves will already be quite a step up, but we are at least in a position to make a push for improvement. As regards RK, I wouldn't let him near any club in a management capacity, apart as a destructive force up the road, of course.

We could never undo what keane put put this club through, would be great though if he came back to portman road with another team. We could stuff his new team and show him our passion throughout the game and watch him leave in a hurry without shaking MM's hand. It would be a lovely way to show him our appreciation. COYB

I don't think he'll even get offered a position in the UK.
All the other clubs saw what he did to Ipswich.

I don't even think Man U would offer him that position.

Maybe Hungary will offer him their managership. He could be in charge of his old mate PrickSkin. . .
or . . . is Lee Martin still at Millwall. I'm sure their fans would welcome him??

We need to get something out of wolves game, 3 televised games follow and we all know our record in front of the cameras isn't great. Glad I am not the only one who loses it when the wonderful Mr Keane is on tv

My ideal scenario for the Euros. O'Neil resigns the week before it starts. FAI approach MM to take over just for the duration. Keane does a runner, before he's told to FO, and the Ipso connection have a great tournament.

Just hope the international break hasn't taken the wind out of our sails...get fed up of the bloody things! Wovles (who are not the team of last year) should be beatable and hopefully 3 wins on the bounce.

Lets hope the hurricane force sleet promised for Saturday doesn't cause a postponement. I can't go another week without footy.

....... Football is a crazy world today - someone will give him a job somewhere - based on his current situation with O'Neil and their recent success.

If / When it comes - hope his learnt a few basics at least. Certainly needs to.

In relation to this article, but not directly, I was really impressed with the first team players who attended the ITFC on the road event on Monday 16/11/15 at the Dove in Ipswich, especially Chambers. I booked it a week previously, having heard so much about how good the events are, not knowing who was going to attend & travelled up from London with a friend to see it.

I can see why he's Captain. Never heard him talk about his career before. He expressed quite plainly the solidarity amongst the team by the answers he gave to questions from fans and thereby demonstrated the close bond that exists between the players which is so important when you play as a team. I think Coke, Knudsen and Chambers are excellent ambassadors for the club.

I'm a ST holder for Ireland at the Aviva Stadium and have been since the newer stadium replaced the old Lansdowne Road Stadium, so I'm at all the home games. When Trap left the job and MON was in the running I wasn't too unhappy with the idea. Then, he gets the bloody job and puts that eejit (as we like to say) in as No.2!
People here were already either pro or anti Keane (the pro element were usually either from Cork, or Man Utd fans) but nobody could understand my sense of hatred for the man after what he did to our club. I find it really difficult sometimes to sit in the Aviva cheering the Boys in Green (but in the back of my mind) knowing that somehow people will give the dark lord a grain of credit for any upturn in our fortunes.
It truly is a predicament.

For the only time in the 55 years or so that I have been supporting Ipswich Town,Keane made me completely lose interest in it to the extent that I stopped going after about five months of wondering why I was going. It was nothing to do with the football produced it was just that in my view that man did not belong at our(my) club.I honestly did not care if the club won or lost and apart from attending shareholder meetings I did not return until after he had gone.
Appointing him probably seemed like a good idea at the time to Marcus Evans but in my view it turned out to be a huge mistake from which we have still not fully recovered although I like to think that we are now well on the way to doing so.
