Hyam Set to Join Rotherham on Loan
Wednesday, 25th Nov 2015 08:51

Town midfielder Luke Hyam is expected at Rotherham United this morning to sign on loan until January, we understand. TWTD revealed the Millers’ interest in the 24-year-old on Monday.

Speaking on Friday, Town boss Mick McCarthy said he was keen to send Hyam out for a short spell in order to play games having been sidelined since January due to a knee injury which eventually required surgery in the summer.

The Blues academy product, who returned to action for the U21s in Friday’s 1-1 draw at QPR, is very much in McCarthy’s long-term plans but is currently unlikely to play first-team games for Town as he continues his recovery with the Blues manager having plenty of other central midfield options available to him.

“If he comes back having had all the time out and gets fit and then he doesn’t play and he travels with us and he doesn’t play, travels with us and doesn’t play again, he loses all the benefit of all his rehab,” McCarthy said.

“If we can put him out for a month, which I think we probably can, and he’s happy to do it, then that’s what will happen.”

Football League clubs have until Thursday at 5pm to sign players via the emergency loan facility.

As of Friday McCarthy, who was at Crawley last night to catch on-loan defender Josh Yorwerth in action, had no plans to add to his squad before the deadline, while he was also open to the likes of Josh Emmanuel and Myles Kenlock going out on loan to gain experience.

Hope it goes well for luke and he gets his game time. If he comes back fully fit and ready to go it can only be good news.

A good chance for him to get some games, and will help that there's a few familiar faces in the dressing room there too.. Hope it goes well and he comes back ready to go, rather than breaking down again. Good luck Luke.

A loan will benefit him for sure and he brings tenacity and bite to our midfield, but that's as far as it goes. He's a limited footballer with the ball at his feet and is most suited to playing a more defensive role. Good luck to him, just think he will find it hard to get in the team when he gets back.

Makes sense..think we've really missed his energy in the midfield..let's hope he comes back fighting fit.

We have missed a fully fit Hyam for a long time. Go get some 1st team games, and come but champing at the bit Luke!

Definately what he needs, and as Hoppy says, he will know some of the players there already.

It will also show Mick how good he is after nearly a year out of the game. He needs to be at his best to get back into the team ahead of Skuse, Bru and Douglas.

Shame most of Rotherham's upcoming fixtures aren't against the teams higher in the league...

@runningout - disagree... I think if he plays against lower teams and Rotheram by some miracle win a few it can only be beneficial... Better than turning out for a team that loses every week and doesn't play any football but merely defends!

2 players going out on loan but we are not strengthening by adding anyone ?
If we are top of the league or even in the playoffs then fine but in reality we have won 3 games from last 14, 2 of those against the worst two sides in the league who will go down .
Where is our ambition to challenge ?
Where is the Mings money ?
We are pinning hopes on the return of Varney who wouldn't make it into any other team in the top half of the table

- One has gone on loan to the conference and therefore unlikely to be any great loss to the 1st XI. The other is going out to get fit as clearly stated.

- Or you could say we're unbeaten in 5.

- The Mings money has presumably gone on the million that we're spending on wages every month. A number of players have come in on frees but they still need to be paid.

- I wasn't aware of anyone pinning anything on Varney, but it'll be nice to have a player with that mentality back and playing after an awful injury.

Thanks for your supportive and positive comments however, I'm sure they've brightened everyone's afternoon.

I think we need a creative goal scoring central midfielder. Doubt Evans will spend anything either now or in January though.

He was scared on the ball he passed bk and to the wing. He will be another player let go or sold to fund the club. I for one won't be renewing my season ticket and another season with Evans name on the shirt and a manger that picks his favorites over the best 11
