Needham Market's Morphew to Train With Town
Wednesday, 3rd Feb 2016 12:37

TWTD understands that Needham Market youngster Keiran Morphew has been invited to train with the Blues next week.

Morphew impressed playing at centre-half during Monday’s 1-0 U21s victory over QPR at Playford Road and the Town staff are keen to take a closer look at the 22-year-old, who can also operate as a central midfielder or full-back.

A product of the Ryman League Premier Division club’s academy where he now coaches, Morphew previously spent time with the Blues in 2013 when he played a game for the U21s, coincidentally away against QPR, at right-back.

If Town were ultimately to take their interest further then it's likely Needham would be due a fee along the lines of the £10,000 paid to Chippenham for Tyrone Mings when he joined the club in 2012.

Is 22 still a youngster in the context of breaking through with a league club? Hope it works out if he's an undiscovered gem.
I guess there'll be some moaning about this as though it was the reason we didn't spend loads in the transfer window?

Used to play in a Sunday league team with him 4 years ago, looked class then. He can play anywhere to be honest, seen him play across the defense and midfield and didn't look out of place once.

Hope it goes well for him.

No disrespect martus, but the Championship is a bit different to Sunday League!! ;-)

Let's hope MM has found another Tyrone Mings!

Everything sounds like Mick is trying to find a ball playing centre back who is good enough, that he can afford and use as a project to take over from Berra at some point. This guy and digby points to this.

iantaylorx, completely agree Sunday league is much different from The Championship.
In the Sunday league the ball touches the turf now and again.
Just joking, please don't shoot me 😀

@Cakeman that's because in the Sunday league they can't afford to grow grass on the clouds.

Tyrone used to play Sunday league football so give the guy a go my only fear is from his under 21 game he was playing the ball out of defence!!! oh well I expect he will be told to put that right!! lol.

Keiran was the best player on monday showing kenlock up whos played championship football but keiran likes to pass the ball on ground so that wont suit are manager who just like hoof football

Be nice to see a defender with some confidence on the ball or defensive midfielder for that matter. Might stop playing hot potato if, as people suggest, that is allowed (mick seems to equate passing with naivety 😟

I went to the U23 game on Monday at Playford Road, he was the standout player of both teams, a very good reader of the game, able to defend and pass.
