Hyam Back, Skuse Close But McCarthy Waiting on Unnamed Doubts
Friday, 4th Mar 2016 13:47

Luke Hyam is fit for Saturday’s home game against Nottingham Forest, while Town manager Mick McCarthy is hopeful that Cole Skuse will be OK for Tuesday’s game at Bolton, however, the Blues boss says one or two other unnamed players have minor niggles which will be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s match.

Hyam missed the 1-0 win at Huddersfield last week having suffered a hamstring problem in the game against Hull City.

“He’s fine, he’s trained today, he’s good to go,” McCarthy said. “There might be some other issues but I’m just waiting until tomorrow to see, so I’m sorry you’ll have to wait.

“It’s a busy little spell and we’ve just got a few bumps and bruises and I’m going to give them as much time to be fit or not.”

Skuse has been out with a toe ligament problem since the QPR match but is very close to making his return, while Piotr Malarczyk is available again having had a kidney stone and Giles Coke is set to return to training after his knee injury, also sustained at Loftus Road.

“We’re hopeful Skusey might be available for Tuesday, that’s great. That’s ahead of schedule,” McCarthy added.

“Peter’s fine, he’s trained today. Giles Coke is hoping to be out training at the weekend.”

The Town boss says Ryan Fraser is making progress as he undergoes his rehab from the hamstring injury he suffered at QPR back with his parent club AFC Bournemouth.

“I spoke to Ryan Fraser in the week,” he said. “He’d been training, I think he just felt it slightly.

“I think in all honesty the timeline for him, hopefully, will see him maybe getting on the bus for Wolves. It would be brilliant if he could. That would be four weeks’ time.”

The Blues manager says long-term absentees David McGoldrick and Teddy Bishop are also doing well as they recover from their hamstring injuries.

“They’ve both been out, they’ve done a lot of work this week,” McCarthy said.

“We’ve just pulled Bish back today, but Didzy came back and trained again and did a lot of work, so he’s looking very positive. And so is Bish, we just pulled him out because he’d done enough.”

Kidney stone - ouch! Hope it's just a one-off for Malarczyk.

Not sure we'll see Bishop this season. Could go the way of other young players that get injured early in their careers.

Hyam's back, that could get our free-flowing midfield in action again?

Good news on Hyam, need him back and fit.

Hope Foley keeps his spot though - he was very decent at Huddersfield I thought with Douglas often going walkabouts. He's actually been quite a solid signing for us, I'd be more than happy to see him start at LB inplace of Knudsen who well - often looks pretty naff.

What I do not understand about some of our hoofs - which we are clearly instructed to do - is how often they go for a throw in! Surely professional footballers can keep the ball in play and knock it into slightly better areas. Especially at full back when they often have a lot of time on the ball to do this better.

Bru + Niles really need to up it. Both came on vs Hudds and both offered so very little.

I watched the 1991/92 DVD the other day to cheer myself up. Apart from the fact we won the league that year, it just made me realise how far off having a 'decent' team we are now. We had 2 full backs who loved bombing on, linking up and scoring goals. We had loads of creation from midfield with Milton, Dozzell and Whitton (Zondervan to hold) and pace and trickery from Kiwomya with the support of Goddard, when we needed it.The Wark/Linighan centre back partnership was similar to Barcalona's current combo (stay with me!) - a big man along with a smaller guy to stroke the ball out of defence, and it worked! Apart from spending £250k on Eddie Youds (who never really played), John Lyall put together a squad that excited the fans and got us on our feet, which cost nothing. It really doesn't matter who is available for selection each week nowadays because we play the same awful brand of football week in week out and are a million miles away from the Town team (who also cost nothing) from 25 years ago. I don't mind admitting that at the age of nearly 40, revisiting the 91/92 season brought a (proud) tear to my eye and got my almost forgotten pulse racing again!

When Hyam was long term injured most were looking forward to his return. Since he's been playing again seems most are just on his back the whole time. I guarantee it will be the same for Bishop if he doesn't pull up trees straight away on his return.

Bishop was alwways going to be rested for the best of this season. They are treating him with Kid gloves at the moment , rightfully os.

No mention if McGoldrick I see.....suspect he's the unnamed palyer. Wouldnt surprise me to see him get a run out soon. But not actually expecting from him when he does .

Rusty Mick out! ..........I and a lot of my family will buy new season ticket once Mick is gone not before, for £25-35 a game (going to 6-8 a games a year, last 2 years before that season ticket holder for over 7 years !) I can't watch that style of football all season long, we need to go home at the end of the match feeling we have been all been entertained not bored to death with a scrappy win or draw each game ……have blue blood and always will ………..it's a bit like you will always love your children …..but some days (seasons) you don't like them !

I like Hyam, but we have far too many negative defence minded central midfielders. We lack creativity.

We're holding back and not revealing who has niggles to keep sides guessing about our approach to the game???

The only way out of this league on a league one budget is to play direct football , Stoke did it. The downfall this season is injuries galore, lack of a full on scorer like last season and players out of position. Also other teams Sussed the style of play .

Well Mick seems like you are being a bit unrealistic as Eddie Howe says Fraser may not be fit enough to come back to Ipswich at all this season.

In view of this think should enter loan market now for replacement before it is too late.
