Town Announce New Scholars
Wednesday, 27th Apr 2016 14:09

Next season’s new intake of academy scholars were at Portman Road last night for their induction with academy director Bryan Klug and Blues boss Mick McCarthy.

The vast majority of the 10 youngsters, who will start their two-year scholarship in the summer, are local boys who have come through the ranks at Playford Road with a number having already represented the club at U18 and U21 levels.

Keeper Mitchell Ware is from Grays in Essex and was with West Ham United until this season.

Full-back or winger Ellis Murrell is from Kirton and has been at the academy since the U10s, while centre-half Ross Marshall has been with the club for two years, having signed from Eastern Junior Alliance side Broxbourne.

Central defender or midfielder Corrie Ndaba is from Dublin and was previously with the famous Cherry Orchard club.

Another midfielder, Steven Cahill, was signed from his hometown club Newmarket Town two years ago.

Midfielder or full-back Tristan Nydam is from Colchester and, as reported by TWTD yesterday, is on standby for England U17s for the European Championships. Nydam has been with the academy since the U10s.

Brett McGavin, a midfielder, the son of academy head of recruitment Steve, is from Bury St Edmunds and joined Town as an U11.

Striker Charlie Brown is from Felixstowe and has been at the academy since the U10s. Felixstowe Academy pupil Brown has already scored for Town’s U21s.

Striker Albert Wilton is from Benfleet in Essex and signed from Eastern Junior Alliance Concord Rangers two years ago.

Striker Jack Lankester is another player from Bury St Edmunds and he joined the Academy as an U7.

Of course Bryan Klug is hampered somewhat from only being allowed to recruit locally or from abroad unlike Norwich.

All gone quiet about Grade 1,casualty of Mr Evans economy drive,as is promotionalso I fear

To be fair to the club, there's more investment in the academy at the moment than there's ever been. I don't think investment is the issue in not getting Cat One, more the goalposts being moved to prevent more Championship clubs stepping up. Bit on current academy funding in this: https://t.co/kOvMFF2cQJ

Where would we be without Klug? Much the poorer (in footballing terms) I fear.

Kirbmeister - Did you see the piece on their 2012 winning team ?
Loftus Cheek the only one to have come through so far
Swift looks decent at Brentford though and Chalaboah ?
Bit like our own great team of 2005 - most not playing now in top two divisions
The Southampton side was decent though !!
Bale on the bench ,-side incl Lallana, McGoldrick , Wallcott , Dyer and Best !
