McGoldrick Facing Another Spell on the Sidelines
Friday, 12th Aug 2016 12:19

Town striker David McGoldrick is set for another spell on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury in Tuesday’s EFL Cup defeat to Stevenage.

We understand the striker suffered an ankle ligament injury shortly after coming on as a half-time sub against Boro and is thought likely to be out for at least six weeks.

[Edit] However, surgery and a longer absence has not yet been ruled out. The former Nottingham Forest and Southampton man is set to see a specialist on Monday.[/Edit]

The latest injury is a big blow for the 28-year-old, who has picked up a succession of injuries in the last few seasons, largely unrelated to one another.

Town boss Mick McCarthy acted quickly to add to his squad, re-signing Luke Varney on a short-term contract.

At least it's only 6 weeks and not 6 months. Cold comfort that.

We need another striker, Reg is decent back up for Murphy but we need quality

I remember the incident on Tuesday, thought it was a small knock and nothing serious, limped around for a minute or two. Absolutely gutted for him, might need another striker on a loan...

This is just a joke! Shouldn't even have needed to be brought on to attempt to win a game against a team who just avoided the conference last season!

As stated Dids will not play a full season and this squad is painfully thin the whole season has started as deja vu one ok half out of two games , out of cup , desperate signings or keeping hold of players we released , players out of position and then taken off when they have bad games . Least MM has his excuses for having his creative players out for long periods already !!

Gutted as in my view he is the most talented player with have. However it appears he cannot stay fit and picks up lots of different injuries which is even more worrying.

Not sure Varney is the answer - if he wasn't good enough 3 months ago why is he now. He is a honest pro but we have lots of them and no way is he a replacement for McGoldrick.

If it happened as soon as he came on then he shouldve asked to come off immediately rather than play on and do even more damage. Coming off immediately could've of been the difference of 3 weeks.
I'm actually getting fed up of his injury spells now and so must the club. Highest wage earner and has never been the same since his first injury spell. Well never see him at full throttle again. I'd happily sell as long as we get an ideal replacement.

Time to get rid, at least we might see Sears play his natural position.

Such a shame for Didzy & for ITFC as oozes class on the rare occasions he's fully fit. Big chance to rekindle the Sears Murphy partnership now

He does seem to be very fragile and unlucky, an unfortunate combination.

Get rid, end of.

Great player when fit and firing, but that seems to be only about five games per year in a long season. Not worth his wages at that rate. I'm sorry, because I do love him when he plays well, but that's it as far as I'm concerned. I'd move him on.
