Town Sign Leicester's Lawrence on Loan
Tuesday, 30th Aug 2016 15:02

Town have announced the signing of Leicester City’s Tom Lawrence on a season-long loan.

Lawrence was mentioned in connection with a move to the Blues in January but subsequently joined Cardiff on loan, having spent time with Blackburn earlier in the 2015/16 campaign.

Early in the summer it was reported that nine clubs were targeting him, including Premier League duo Hull City and Swansea, as well as SPL champions Celtic and Championship sides Aston Villa, Brighton, Derby, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.

The 22-year-old, who was on loan at Rotherham for a month during 2014/15, joined the Foxes from Manchester United for a reported £1 million on the final day of the 2014 summer transfer window after they had failed in their attempt to land Town’s David McGoldrick.

But the 5ft 9in tall forward has made just three league starts and one FA Cup sub appearance for the Premier League champions since then and and has not featured this season.

Wrexham-born Lawrence, who is contracted to the Foxes until June 2018, spent spells out on loan at Carlisle and Yeovil while a Manchester United player.

Lawrence, who missed Euro 2016 due to an ankle injury, has been capped four times by Wales, in addition to appearances at U17, U19 and U21 levels, and is in the squad for their opening World Cup qualifier against Moldova on Monday 5th September in Cardiff.

The signing of Lawrence is almost certainly won't be Town's final addition before the transfer window closes at 11pm tomorrow.

Manager Mick McCarthy is understood to be looking for a direct replacement for Daryl Murphy, who joined Newcastle over the weekend, with Burnley's Lukas Jutkiewicz understood to be on his list of targets, while the Town boss is keen to augment other areas of his squad with no emergency loans available this season. Clarets winger Michael Kightly also remains a target.

**panic**

How can we possibly cope without having a big target man to hoof the ball towards.

There aren't any other possible options, are there?

Good to see we've signed someone to cover McGoldrick while he's injured and maybe compete with him once he's recovered. While Sears isn't finding the net he's probably doing more as a creative wide player than in the middle. Best is the cover we need, possibly - I guess he has something to prove. Still need two more players to complete the squad until January - someone in the middle and possibly a target man (although I'd rather we didn't).

Sounds from the report above that Mick is still looking for one or two players.

He has certainly had a busier window than usual, and hopefully it bodes well for the rest of season.

Personally feel we have the 'numbers' now;so would like to see a marquee signing to round things off, although the candidates mentioned on hear so far have not excited me.

having started at Man Utd means diddly squat, as we should know... We seem to be going backwards, with cheap and cheerful options. Honestly think we are better off without what we have chose to bring in...

I notice that the moaning muppets are still positive. You can just imagine if they were in charge we would be in the Sunday league.
Please give all new signings a chance before you muppets post the same old c--p.

Seasider - the trouble with marquee signings, is the pressure on them to do well straight away can be quite 'in tents'...

Just seen that he averages a goal every 9 games. Obviously hoping this improves whilst at ITFC!
