Early in the summer it was reported that nine clubs were targeting him, including Premier League duo Hull City and Swansea, as well as SPL champions Celtic and Championship sides Aston Villa, Brighton, Derby, Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Wolves.
The 22-year-old, who was on loan at Rotherham for a month during 2014/15, joined the Foxes from Manchester United for a reported £1 million on the final day of the 2014 summer transfer window after they had failed in their attempt to land Town’s David McGoldrick.
But the 5ft 9in tall forward has made just three league starts and one FA Cup sub appearance for the Premier League champions since then and and has not featured this season.
Wrexham-born Lawrence, who is contracted to the Foxes until June 2018, spent spells out on loan at Carlisle and Yeovil while a Manchester United player.
Lawrence, who missed Euro 2016 due to an ankle injury, has been capped four times by Wales, in addition to appearances at U17, U19 and U21 levels, and is in the squad for their opening World Cup qualifier against Moldova on Monday 5th September in Cardiff.
The signing of Lawrence is almost certainly won't be Town's final addition before the transfer window closes at 11pm tomorrow.
Manager Mick McCarthy is understood to be looking for a direct replacement for Daryl Murphy, who joined Newcastle over the weekend, with Burnley's Lukas Jutkiewicz understood to be on his list of targets, while the Town boss is keen to augment other areas of his squad with no emergency loans available this season. Clarets winger Michael Kightly also remains a target.

He is a footballer - so in my eyes a good addition Wanted by afew others so I am sure he is coming in with a def role and suddenly our bench is looking stronger - would like one more
Thank goodness he,s not another williams as i recall talented footballer always (70% )injured, maybe this boy can play and not be injured like sicknote Williams and D McG so let s see who,s next, welcome Tom don,t worry about the doom and gloom,we,re better than75% of the teams in this league (forgive the maths)
It says he is a forward? what sort of forward? a striker? puzzled on this one, i have never heard of him! but good luck to the lad, hope he knows his stuff!?
Another sudden, under the radar signing from Mick. I have to say his tactics may be a bit dodgy but the way he gets his transfer business done is second to none! Welcome Tom hope you are the start of a few signing arriving before tomorrow.
Great signing but he's no RB or 6 foot 12" 80 goal a season striker! Chambers out, MM Out , Evans Out, Everybody Out! Often wonder what people do want on this sight. On a positive not one mention of hoofball!
I love that Mick is signing players which we didn't see coming!! Tom is a good age & he can actually also play as an attacking midfielder. Hopefully a couple more to come in. What with the international break it's good to get the new boys in & training with the team. COYB
Good player. Quick feet, takes up good positions, can see a pass, decent at popping of shots from in and around the box, perhaps not the quickest or best defensively.
I would think having been at the continually unstable clubs that are Blackburn and Cardiff, its more likely he diddn't want to return! He has security here until the end of the season and ITFC is a great club for accepting new players in to the squad and making them welcome.
It's not what we think now.. It's what we think when they leave! Murphy hardly came with a prolific goal scoring record.. Let's give Lawrence and Best a chance and hopefully we have a good season! Happy enough with both signings.. Still don't think our business is done and look forward to more signings! COYB!!
