Stewart Exits Town
Wednesday, 31st Aug 2016 15:37

Winger Cameron Stewart has left the Blues by mutual consent. The 25-year-old had a year remaining on his contract but was firmly out of manager Mick McCarthy’s plans.

Stewart joined the Blues two years ago having been released by Hull City and after a move to Leeds United broke down, but made only two sub appearances for Town, both in the FA Cup ties against Southampton in January 2015.

“I would like to wish the lads and the management team all the best for the rest of the season,” Stewart told the club site.

“Ipswich Town is a fantastic football club but unfortunately things haven’t gone as I would have like them to over the last two seasons.

“I am now looking forward to a new challenge and hope that once the transfer window has closed I may be in a better position to resume my career elsewhere.”

McCarthy added: “It has not worked out for Cameron here but that happens in football sometimes. We wish him all the best for the future.”

Stewart spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers, having been with Barnsley for a short spell at the end of the previous campaign.

After being given another chance that he seemed to have grabbed in pre season. Oh well wages freed up.

Good luck to him elsewhere, Shame it didn't work out but best for both parties now we have some options in wide positions

Big shame looked good pre season and had got himself fit

Mick had tried to talk him up in pre-season, but it didn't get any bites to take him, so makes sense to let him just go really, and hope he can sort himself out and get a deal somewhere else. He had talent, but needs to knuckle down and use it to make a career for himself.

Bit sad really but at least the parting seems to be cordial on both sides, would not be surprised to see Doncastor Rovers take him back.

Makes no difference how hard you try once the McCarthy knife is in it stays in. McCarthy's ego will not allow any chance for the Dino to be proved wrong.

Currie10 how can you say good luck at his level. ( league 1 / 2) we don't really know what level he is at as never had a chance here which was a shame always looked a decent player had a good pre season so could have given us an option this season I thought.

I'm sure he's got something going for him or surely MickMac wouldn't have taken him in the first place and would have shipped him out earlier .

I wish him well for the future.

12th man really, what do you base that on. Get fed up of players that don't come to micks standard being label as bad attitude. We don't ever know why.

Good luck where ever you end up Stewart, always looked good "every" pre season to me.

Martin he didn't even pull up trees in league 1 with Donny and was often on the bench.

If we'd missed a trick, then we'd have had bids from other champ clubs maybe 100-200k instead of having to pay him off.

Not Mick's fault he couldn't motivate himself to be fit in past summers. If he wants to sort his career out, he can elsewhere. Cheerio.

Best of luck for the future Cameron. Hope you find a good club & gametime soon.

Well, maybe we'll be more punctual in paying him off than Leeds were. Good riddance to one of our worst ever signings.

MM only bad signing, but I suppose he wasn't to know he was more interested in his pay packet than football.
Classic example of a player getting to a point in their career then thinking they no longer have to work at it.
Shame he could've been a real quality player, hope he learns from this but with his quote of "once the transfer window closes I will be in a better position to resume my career" (once teams can't sign a loan or buy a player they will offer me better money to join) dosent seem like he has.

@Martin : I think he did get a chance here and he blew it. He possibly even got a second chance last year & still didn't make an impression. The annoying thing is that he seemed to be in the best condition since arriving here, physically & mentally, this summer, but clearly it was too late by then.
Coulda, woulda, shoulda.

So gutted to hear the news of the departure as I've always liked Cameron's style of play and quite a decent set piece taker too.

Wish him the best of luck for the future.

I would love to know what the truth is with the McCarthy Stewart relationship. Either way it's yet another contract cancelled by mutual consent which seems to be an all to regular occurrence at Portman Road these days

Bluestone , reference your post about getting the knife in , some posters on this site are the same . There is the same old doom and gloom and the knife in all the time .We have a good manager that saved us from the lower regions . We are a team that expects to be in the top half of the table but we do not have a God given right to get promotion .trust in Mick and Terry . He is building a team with team spirit and he knows who fits and who is not the right fit . In my experience , you can have one member of the team that has a negative effect on the team as a whole . Nothing personal but I am just fed up with all the negativity .
