Knudsen Fit to Face Owls
Thursday, 3rd Nov 2016 14:14

Danish international left-back Jonas Knudsen will return to the Town side at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday having recovered from the back injury which forced him off at Newcastle and saw him miss the 2-2 home draw with Rotherham last weekend.

“He’s a tough boy, he’s very durable,” manager Mick McCarthy said. “He had a really bad back, it went into spasm and we had to take him off and he had a reaction to it last week, but he’s all right, he’s trained today and he’s back at his competitive best.”

Myles Kenlock, 19, impressed his boss during the game against the Millers in Knudsen's place, but McCarthy confirmed that Knudsen would come straight back into the XI.

“That back four had been playing and has served us well over the years,” he added. “When we had five clean sheets in seven that was the back four that played regularly and they’ve served us so well, and they deserve their credits for that.

“But Josh [Emmanuel] and Myles have done exceptionally well and I know I can rely on them, everybody knows that now. They are trusted as first-team players now by the other first-team players.

"I think that is the acid test - when they get to the stage where they’re accepted by first-teamers. They come in and play and whatever happens, nobody’s worried about them. They’re really solid, trustworthy first-team players.”

McCarthy says no one has any new knocks but that Luke Hyam (knee), Tommy Smith (back), Brett Pitman (ankle) and Giles Coke (knee) are all still sidelined.

“Everybody else is fine except for long-term injuries that are going to take a few more weeks yet, everybody else is fine,” he said.

I know people will find a way for this to be bad news, but I really like jonas. Very good defensively and in recent weeks the throw in has been a weapon. Also to be fair to him he's popped up nicely with a couple of goals too. Pitty kenlock can't get a run, i would like to see him play left midfield reminds me a little of Jamie Clapham

If he's to play how he did vs Brighton away last season or the most part of Norwich home, welcome back.

If he's going to play how he did away at Hudds last season, or Brentford away this, dear god.

Very strange player. Been better this season but I'm still not sold.

I think he's a really good left back.

Braveblue - I wasn't at the game vs Rotherham, however I assume by that comment you were. Did you feel Kenlock offered more than Knudsen and deserves to play?

I was at Newcastle and Emmanuel definitely deserves a go RB. He was superb second half.

Not too disappointed with this. I like Kenlock and he definitely could mature into a better than Knudsen but for now Knudsen has done enough to be in the first team.... Still think Emmanuel should be in for Chambers though, wasted having a young talent like him on the bench.

I am not a die hard "MM out" supporter but even I would like to see the guy who has the shirt keeps the shirt unless he has a bad game(s). Kenlock did nothing wrong and in-fact played very well so for me, he should keep his place.

However, I will support the team whoever plays.

COYB !

I think age should be no barrier. If you are good enough, you are old enough. If you come into the team and perform well and strengthen the team not weaken it, then the position is yours to loose the next game. If you have a bad game or 2 and there is a strong player standing by then you should know you could loose your place. That is a formula to keep players on their toes and not to become complacent.

Currie10 yes in short Kenlock offered more than Knudsen! He brought the ball out better and looked to pass to feet .Kenlock over lapped well and when able got in crosses. His short throw was better and actually found a blue shirt.Knudsen might be a little more streetwise but defensively no better and going foward offers very little.Knudsen hoofs the ball over his shoulder without looking ,even when he could take a touch he hoofs it long. Its not even a good long ball as opposing full back doesn't even have to turn at chase he just heads it straight back. Also once in a blue moon Knudsen actually gets to a position to cross and either 1)hits it out of play2)hits first man3)puts it into high4)puts ball into low5)puts ball to long .Apart from that excellent left back lol.Play well keep your place MM said so wtf!?coyb

Well I too was at Newcastle and I would be quite happy if Knudsen does not return at Wednesday.

It's the first time I have seen him live and underwhelmed would be an understatement!

For me Kelock is a better player defensively and attacking wise than Knudsen who is caught out of position so much it stops the left midfielder playing his natural game as he has to cover so much , the same as Chambo on the right . Kenlock cannot throw it as far though !!
Another good statement for the youngsters doesn't matter how well you do when you have a chance , you will be dropped anyway , no incentive for the players again

I thought Kenlock was excellent first half against Rotherham, but like many others not so good second half. Away to Sheffield Wednesday...I would bring Knudsen back in if fit.

The biggest question is whether Kenlock and Emmanuel are good enough to make it at ITFC. I wonder the coaching staff's view on that. If they are felt to be good enough, we must give them the opportunity to keep their place when they do well.

Whether you think Kenlock deserves his place or not, you can't argue with the recent clean sheet record with Knudsen in the side.
Admittedly, we were more attacking on Saturday but we still let in two goals (I'm not blaming Kenlock by the way).
I just think for Sheff Wed away you go with experience - and Knudsen gets the nod.

BigHibbs are you on drugs? Good defensively and his throw in is a weapon? Behave.

Knudsen should come back into the side, he is also a young player and has been one of our better performers this year.
Kenlock will have his time and seems to play better in the 1st team than he does for the U23's?

I think at this particular moment we have quite a nice blend of both promising young and experience senior players. Just that MM needs to figure out who to play and in what positions. Young players needs game time and if senior players lacks consistency, then MM should rest them for a game or two. But do spend in January for a good proven striker and an attacking midfielder.

howden blue-sorry own marked you by mistake.I also think that Kenlock will be better than Knudsen bearing in mind how few games the former has played.

Kenlock mom then dropped just like Emmanuel on the other flank.

McCarthy said the other day that he reckons young players are now getting more game time than when he took over;so he seems quite happy with the situation.Enough said!

No problem

Like I said the first time I've seen him play in the flesh !

Young kenlock is worth a chance .

The other fella Emmanuel looked good to me .

Maybe not the finished article but how are these talented youngsters going to gain experience if Mick keeps playing the ineffective chambers and Knudsen there
