Town Linked With Grigg Bid and Aberdeen Defender
Sunday, 8th Jan 2017 12:17

Town are reported to be ready to make a move for Wigan’s Northern Irish international striker Will Grigg and are also said to be keen on Aberdeen right-back Shay Logan.

According to The Sun on Sunday the Blues are keen on Grigg and are set to make an offer for the 25-year-old, who is contracted to the Latics until the summer of 2018.

Solihull-born Grigg was with the youth set-ups at Birmingham City and Solihull Moors before playing non-league senior football for Stratford Town.

The 5ft 11in tall striker broke into the Football League when Walsall signed him in 2008, before moving on to Brentford in 2013 and then, after a loan spell with the MK Dons in the 2014/15 season, Wigan in the summer of 2015 for fee reported to be £900,000.

The eight-times-capped Northern Ireland international scored 28 times for the Latics last season - 25 in the league - in 38 starts and five sub appearances in all competitions as they won the League One title and he won the third tier’s Golden Boot. This season he has scored seven goals in 20 starts and five sub appearances.

Grigg, whose song at Wigan went viral towards the end of last season, was a member of the Northern Ireland squad at the European Championships last summer but without making it on to the field.

Manchester-born Logan, 28, is a graduate of the Manchester City academy and had spells on loan with Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Stockport and Tranmere while with his hometown club.

The 5ft 8in tall right-back joined Brentford on a permanent basis in the summer of 2011, then moved on to Aberdeen initially on loan in 2014. Logan, who was linked with a move to Bolton in the summer, is contracted to the Dons until the end of June 2018.

The SPL side would reportedly accept a fee of around £200,000 for Logan.

We have absolutely no chance of signing will grigg why even waste ours and Wigan time with that one

As for the rb very pleased we are looking to move chambers out of there. Well I assume that's what mick's plan is

If true, Grigg could be decent. Would he come though, or would other clubs beat us to him?

No idea about Logan. Not that expensive though, so why not? Especially if it would mean MM moving Chambers in the middle.

Does any fee include the rights to the Will Grigg song? What's the plan Grigg and Danny Ward upfront?

If they won't do business on Power they certainly won't do it on Grigg not for what we can offer.

More paper tosh

I'd take Grigg to be fair. Why not we need firepower for sure! The lad Logan again maybe worth a crack (IF TRUE).

All talk.....just to try to keep the fans happy, will never happen. Had been a season ticket holder for the last 15 years glad I did not renew this year. Football at Ipswich so boring now always playing for a draw.

I wonder if Chambers knows he is our new left back?

Logan is far more likely, and would be a good signing IMO. Gets up and down the pitch, and is a proper RB. Tbh aside from the song I would probably prefer Danny Ward.

Logan would be a great signing in my opinion, a good defender with the ability to get up and down the line as well. Seen him play a couple times this season and would not be a bad addition at all.

Never mind any new signings. Irrelevant. The signing required is a new manager and the dismissal or resignation of McCarthy.

McCarthy OUT

Suspect we are finally looking at right backs, because Chambers is leaving ( possibly this window to Wolves). I said on here a week ago that Chambers was particularly down after Bristol away game when he told my friend that he couldn't continue . It wasn't clear if he meant, playing RB, or playing for Town full stop. Chambers had done wonders to build up the player: fans rapport.

But some idiots have given him a rough ride for his efforts at right back. Ignoring the simple fact that it is totally down to McCarthy persisting with playing him , amongst other players out of position. Chambers has never hidden his desire to play at CB, his true position. He's done his best playing that position but we all know that he is a weak link there.

If he goes I wish him well and "thank him" for his great job done as a captain. We missed that aspect yesterday for sure. But can understand why the reported Wolves interest might appeal to him.

Ps was Chambers really injured yesterday, or just not wanting to be cup tied?

I don't know anything about Logan so can't comment. Griggs would be a good signing, but will we honestly offer enough money? Can't see it.

Running out. Oops I marked u up when I meant to mark u down. How would signing Griggs not improve the squad? Or signing a proper rb?

We should do everything in our power to sign Tom Lawrence. If teams like Wigan are in the running for him then we should be too.

Would he be back up for Emmanuel ??? not sure what is happening at PR. at the moment, with no celebrations yesterday for the Lawrence goals ??? no smile on his face, all though they were very important goals ???
Not sure wether the players are playing for McCarthy now ??? or is it my imagination, ?
I did boycott yesterdays game, the first time for years and years. But I am still a ST.holder.
Unfortunately we have still got to persevere with the stubborn Dino for years, as he is not going to leave,, who would on his salary !!!!!!!! Over to you Evans.??
Over 4yrs. ago he performed his Magic here, but I am afraid that Magic has long Gone now and at the moment I cannot see that coming back.

I agree with ArnieM on Chambers. I've been hugely critical of him continually playing at right back over the last 3 years, but never critical of him as a player. For no apparent reason MM decided to player a very decent centre half at right back & convert him to that role. Since then I've lost count of the number of centre halves we have signed, nearly all of whom who weren't fit to lace his boots. One decent right back would have saved all that bother.
I'm in favour of poi ting out such folly, but never the personal attacks on Chambers, who I've always respected.

Will Grigg absolute quality goalscorer, would improve the squad.
Dont really need this lad from aberdeen unless someone moves on from the defence, as emmanuel should be ahead of him.
