Taylor and Knudsen Out for Season
Thursday, 6th Apr 2017 15:10

Town boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed that defensive pair Steven Taylor and Jonas Knudsen will miss the rest of the season.

Taylor, 31, suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury during Tuesday’s 3-0 victory over Wigan, his first game back in the side.

McCarthy says he has spoken to the former Newcastle man, whose short-term deal is up in the summer, about returning to Portman Road next season.

“That’s Tayls finished for the season,” he confirmed. “Going forward, he’s been such a positive influence around the place, he is a good player, a good pro, he trains brilliantly.

“I’ve had the discussion with him that if he wants to come back and do a pre-season next season I’m sure everybody would be happy to see him. If he’s fit he’s a really good player.

“He missed the pre-season last season and it always leaves you in danger of getting injuries.”

Knudsen, 24, is out with a shoulder injury and McCarthy says the Danish international won’t play again this season, despite not requiring surgery.

“He just did it in training, it just popped open,” he said. “We had some good news on him today, I think he’s going to get by rehabbing it as opposed to having an operation on it, which was the first thought.

“Pretty much because he’s big and powerful up here and we know he’ll do all his rehabbing and his work and strengthening. I think that’s the route we’re going to go down rather than operating.

“He won’t be involved in the season, it’s going to be four to six weeks, I would have thought.”

Regarding another defender, Adam Webster, who has been out of action since January with an ankle injury, McCarthy dismissed the player’s suggestion that he could be back for the final match of the campaign.

“That’s what he said, last game of the season. I don’t think so,” McCarthy added. “He’s hoping to be out on the training ground prior to the Newcastle game, that’s still his goal.

“If he gets there it would be nice to have training and just finish the season fit. Then he can go and have his holiday and then he’ll be right for coming back.”

So he's had that chat with Taylor, but still not heard anything further regarding Chambers. Is he still just having the one-year option activated, or likely to get anything more than that? With Berra likely to move on, and Webster back. Chambers is still worth another couple of years as a CB, as far as I'm concerned rather than thinking Taylor would be enough cover with Smith.

"McCarthy says he has spoken to the former Newcastle man about returning to Portman Road next season."

Does that mean McCarthy is still planning to be here next season if he is asking players whether they will be available next season?

As Hoppy says, I think it would be more important to tie Chambers down for longer than just the 'one year option' on him. With him, Webster, Smith, Knudsen, Spence (hopefully) Emmanuel and Kenlock all around next season I am not sure Taylor (however much of a positive influence he is around the place) is fit enough to warrant a wage. Unless he is on a'pay as you play basis' I think he might spend more time injured than playing. I would guess that is why no other team was willing to sign him.

Taylor has been a great player over the years, but is he really going to give any club 30 games or more now,I doubt it very much so why are we talking about him coming back next season.
IS this surpossed to be called progression.!!
Has anybody talked to Chamber yet,I wonder.! He is well worth another season at CB.
But the question I ask is,what is happening about MM.Is he going or staying.Until then the club should not be making plans as another manager may not want them.🤔🤔

A lot of dead wood will be gone at the end of the season, Berra, Douglas, Giles Coke, all the loans will return, to have Steve Taylor as cover for is not a bad option at all, especially if he gets a full ore season, he's obviously and expirienced leader that will be good with chambers to pass on knowledge to the youth we're trying to bring through

Tayls missed pre-season and that's not helped him. He is a great character and a great professional and if he is fit, I would like him here and competing for a place next season.
So looks like dino will be here next season.. Depending on season ticket sales..

What's the point of MM talking to players about next season until we know if he is staying himself .

If he hasn't spoken to Chambers and Berra does that mean they are going .

The club is being run in a very strange way with MM seeming to do what he likes , that can't be right .

Taylor has played less than a quarter of games over last 5 years and his fitness will not be improving with age .This can only work if he is on a pay as you play contract and not another sick note we pay to never play just because they are good blokes around the place .
Jonas has probably damaged his shoulder doing all those pointless long throws .
MM shouldn't be talking about transfers and deals because he has failed badly this season and should no longer be here

Shame for Knudsen, but we have a better player in Kenlock.

As for a Taylor he is a complete waste of time. Spends more time injured. If he's given a new contract he really sums us up.
