Young Quintet Left Out of Photo Call
Friday, 28th Aug 2020 10:58

Youngsters Idris El Mizouni, Armando Dobra, Brett McGavin, Corrie Ndaba and Aaron Drinan were left out of the first-team photo call held at Portman Road yesterday afternoon.

We understand the quintet were told at the training ground earlier in the day that they wouldn’t be included in the group shots or have individual photos taken.

Of the five, only Dobra, 19, and El Mizouni, 19, were given squad numbers when they were released earlier in the summer, while Drinan, 22, and McGavin, 20, started pre-season training with the senior players and have featured throughout the first-team friendlies so far.

Ndaba, 20, the only one of the five not to have made a competitive first-team appearance up to now, has impressed with his displays during pre-season.

The five are set to be the U23s squad for tonight’s friendly against Norwich and we understand some or all of them will also make the trip with the first team for Saturday’s final pre-season game at Cambridge.

Twenty-four players were included in the annual photo call, which due to coronavirus restrictions didn’t include the regular group shot with the players forming the letters NHS in the centre circle instead in tribute to health service workers.

Jesus wept, what a lot of bed wetting from you all over a bladdy photoshoot.

As babyblue pointed out, there are maximum numbers imposed. Maybe this was explained to them and as they are the most recent/junior squad members, they had to be left out. Will you all come back and apologise to Lambert if this turns out to be the case?

At least wait for a body before having an autopsy.

Essextractorboy Downes is proven even at championship level but tell me when did your other two have a good game not decent but even just good? Dozzell has talent but when have we seen it last and Bishop again has talent but again when did he last show it. I feel for the latter due to injuries but the fact is our midfield was absolutely dogs@@t last year no creativity no support for the back four and no width! Dobra has talent and Brighton know it but how can he perform or be shown that on the main stage if he doesn't play. Dozzell has talent he's had chances and been found average now that could be how he was played by the manager but again poor manager poor owner and poor choices

Wrong message to our young players.
Wrong message to other clubs shopping around for cheap young talent.

Souperjim that may be the case but tell me how they can do any worse than what we all saw last season? Dobra especially?

I'd also ask anyone that how would you feel if a premier league club wanted you last season and the owner bangs on about a 5 point plan but your manager sees you as not even worthy of being in the 24 this season after the poorest league finish in 60 odd years?

Far too many players on the books at Portman Road. We are in div 1. We are not in a position to carry a huge squad or plain ordinary players, that's just what they are. I feel Dobra and El Mizouni can consider themselves unfortunate as I'd like to see them as subs involved with the 1st team but getting regular football in a loan maybe will do them more good in short term. I think Dozzell can consider himself fortunate to be one of the ones in the photo call at the expense of these two.

The only reason I can find is that Lambert has loan moves lined up for them, then he can let a over the hill injury prone mate of our premiership class numbers 4&8

I am not overly impressed by the potential issues of man management here. However I cannot believe the venom in some posts the knowledge some of you seem to have. Would I have done the same with young players - possibly not. BUT what are the facts - are some about to go out on loan, are the 30 people COVID limit an issue, is it good management - swaying you've not made it just yet. In fairness he has praised and given game time to all of them so far in pre-season, he has singled Drinan, Nbada & Dobra out for praise. He has given game time. They often add players as inserts to team pics. I get fans are loosing trust in Lambert and for last seasons results I get that, but come on people lets not jump on every bandwagon. We have a history of great youngsters that have not made the grade or fulfilled their early promise - some got too much too soon look at Bowditch, Billy Clarke, Danny Haynes to name a few. I will judge Lambert 5 games in but until then he has to have the chance to right last seasons wrongs. COYB

With the new rules on squad make up / wages etc ,coupled with the FA guidance it must be e right conundrum to select and organise ‘group ‘/ ‘team' photos , and one suspects lots can be surmised , and possibly that's all .
It will be interesting to see if we get articulation from PL and co.

Londonblue then how can we implement the 5 point plan that Evans has mugged people off with for over 7 years if these guys aren't getting a chance? We finished at our lowest position for over 60 years and had relegation form from January, we've shipped 7 goals in our last two pre season friendlies albeit against premier opposition, Dobra was wanted by a good footballing premier league club in Brighton but not good enough for the 24 in what is an average league one side and were poor last season in a poor league as well. If I was Dobra I'd rather go on loan from a premier league club than a poor league one club and that's why we will lose these players. You can't comment if they're any good until they've been given some games and not with a non league team

I can accept that they may not play ans may indeed go out on loan, thats not the point. Its about making them feel part of the club, showing them there is a pathway there.

I agree that Mcgavin and El Mizuni could benefit from a loan. Drinnan needs to be given the chance to show he can make it here, sending him back to Ayr doesnt do that. If he doesn't take that chance fine but with Jackson and Norwood seemingly nowhere RN he deserves that chance.

Dobra should be integrated into the 1st team this season. He did well at Cambs, has done well in pre season.... what's has he got to do?

Based of performance Dozzell and Judge have a lot to do to justify a place in the squad so after Downes, Huws and Bishop I can't see how Dobra is not next in line.

Finally its about respect, having players turn up to the shoot to be told they are not required is just plain disrespectful....a conversation could and should have been had beforehand, esp if Lambert does have other plans for them.

It's the communication that is the problem here.... we have taken to L1 like a duck to water, tinpot and unprofessional.

If you are any one of those players what are you thinking?

Dobra must be thinking if he was at Brighton he'd get loaded out to L1 club and play! Probabaly get paid more too.

Obviously left out so that they could spell the initials NHS in a socially distant manner. At least, that is the only reason I can think of and is about as logical as anything else that comes out of Portman Road these days!

Absolutely ridiculous Why would you leave them all out for? Great start for bonding all the squad together. They need to sort it out or it's gonna be another dreadful season. They won't wanna play for us, don't blame them!!

Come on people - get a grip! Its just a photo! The COVID limit of 30 people always meant that there would be players that would miss out - its simple maths at the end of the day.
Now everybody is up in arms that these five have missed out - well somebody was always going to be missing due to our squad size.
Guess if two of the five had been Chambers and Skuse then everybody would be celebrating and thinking that they were about to be shipped out.
Fact is its just a photo that had a maximum number of people to it - now the world and his wife is reading everything into it.
God this page gets boring with its anti ITFC comments sometimes...............

If this is true about the FA restrictions being the problem, why not ask the coaches to stay out of one pic and take it with the lads, then take another with the coaches and without the lads?

DUH!

What a wonderful(kick in the teeth) gesture to players who are our future even if the gathering is limited to 30 to tell them they will not be individually photographed is an effin insult P.L you have lost the plot you treat these kids with utter contempt and like big gob you think you are untouchable, Just clear your desk and take 4&8 with you, i have always been proud of the way this club used to look after players but that is a now long distance memory this action of yours stinks the building out BIG TIME!!!!

This is too bizarre for words! Excluding the lads from a pre-season photograph is just vindictive! No rationale at all. There is no limit to numbers of players in a photo! I suspect there is a power play going on between ME (who wants to develop players from the Academy) and the Manager who feels under pressure to produce results! Unfortunately for all of us we now have to suffer another long debate about when the manager passes his sell by date!
