Keane and Loughlan Spotted at Watford
Keane and Loughlan Spotted at Watford
Saturday, 1st Aug 2009 21:19

Town boss Roy Keane and assistant manager Tony Loughlan were spotted at Vicarage Road this afternoon watching Watford beat Parma 3-2 in a friendly. Earlier in the week, TWTD was first to reveal that the Blues are chasing Hornets striker Tamás Priskin.

The Hungarian scored once and won a freekick which led to another of Watford’s goals as he impressed against the Italian side.

On Friday, Keane denied that he had made a bid for the 22-year-old after a TV channel claimed that the Hornets had turned down a £1 million offer. While no bid may yet have been made, the duo’s presence at this afternoon’s game suggests that Priskin is indeed on Town’s radar.

In January, TWTD reported that Town’s head of football development Bryan Klug had watched Watford in action.

At the time, defender Adrian Mariappa appeared to be the player targeted, something subsequently denied by the club after a proposed swap deal involving Veliche Shumulikoski fell through.

Former chief executive Derek Bowden told TWTD in March: “We talked to Watford about a swap but that didn’t transpire. The player we were interested in wasn’t Adrian Mariappa. We did talk to them briefly about a swap, but they didn’t want to do it.”

Priskin, who has a year left on his contract, may well have been the man the Blues were looking to take to Portman Road as part of that deal.

Keane is looking to bring in two strikers ahead of the start of the season with Celta Vigo youngster Joselu also being targeted, having been reportedly spotted last season by specialist skills coach Steve Foley.

i don't know enough about priskin to know whether he'd be a good signing or not....but I'm not keen on Beckford simply for the fact that we'd have to pay way over the odds to get him and I don't think he's good enough to take that financial risk....

But keano don't take no silly business beckford may settle down here , a good signing would be some one like macheda on loan from man united, very unlikely but would be good to try,

Priskin sounds to me like a decent signing, and he is the right age. We really need to get someone in rather than rely on Stead who seemed rather isolated at times on Friday. Wickham looks good, but because of his age we can't rely on him too much. The key to promotion may be getting the right striker in, so good luck Roy.

By the way, a week to go before the season starts and Leroy Lita hasn't got a club. A bit of a risk maybe, but could be worth taking.

Worried that we may have to pay over the odds now that there's only a few days left to the start of the new season, or in fact that we may buy in haste. The sale of Rhodes has knocked me and my optimism back aways, and I feel we NEED a recognised goalscorer in soon - if only to keep the "fans" from turning on Roy. I wait with ever more baited breath

Although Beckford would be a good signing its not gonna happen ....:( But Priskin Could Be a Threat .....He could go from scoring 10 or so goals at watford to 29 at Town you just dont know :D

Or Alternativley Give our young stars a chance lee martins ,wickham, peters, reggie all good teams use there youths ......thoughts please.

Now, I might be a bit long in the tooth but I have to say that I'm becoming a bit 'worried' about this striker issue. It's all sounding a bit familiar to me. I do have faith in the young ones at the club but we need that 15/20 goal a season guy. If not I just can't see us getting automatic promotion, anything else won't do.

Not seen Priskin play and did not realise he had a lot of pace. Feel we still need another 1 or 2 with pace in side although was impressed with Martin and Peters on Friday they are really quick.

Also team on Friday at times didn't waste time getting ball forward which we will need to do more often this season than we did last.

Hopefully a couple of strikers will be in next week. Don't want Lita though and can't see RK having him in the place.

I have to say I've only seen his goals on youtube (search priskin review) and he does look like a pretty tidy finisher. I've heard a few watford fans rate him fairly highly after a good spell with them last season. He's big, has got pace and is confident enough infront of goal.. Could he be what we need? I haven't got a clue myself, It's not hard to look good on youtube.

I think an extra forward will be needed if Keane isn't planning on using Counago or Lisbie. Marlon King might be the way forward if he could be persuaded to drop down to the championship?

Priskin is a sound buy. He was on several prem club radards last year and in a good side will score maore than he did at Watford. Shame about Rhodes but remember his dad left in accrimonious circumstances and allegedly JR lacks the outright pace that RK is looking for. Be good to see another forward though.... seen the videos of Joeslu on Youtube and he seems to have been playing in some parks like Chantry!

I'd be very happy with Priskin, could see him sitting in nicely in our system as well. Got pace and power, and I know a few Watford fans who have told me that really don't want to see him go. As long as we don't pay over the odds, a fine buy.

Roy is no mug he will have lined up someone before we play coventry , the only thing that worries me is that lisbie has gone off the radar (i know hes injured) but looks like he will be here all season...thats a worry considering Rhodes has gone and probably counago who are both better by far.
anyone knows what has happened to Dos Santos?
on load perhaps?

Ive always rated Priskin, In a team like Ipswich I think he could easily score 15+.

Went on Watfords 606 and they wouldnt be happy to sell him. Gonna have to be 2mill before we get him.

Geo went to espanyol in spain (i think). Keane declared there was no chance of getting him back, which is a shame because he was a real match winner last season.

interesting to read Watford fans' views about Priskin. Most want him to stay with some even saying he's their best player and worth up to 4m. however it seems he lacks commitment at times and is a bit pedestrian. IMO he'd be good and just what we need but don't bid more than about 2.2m.

Priskin looks useful and about right for what we want , looking at the options we have up front at the moment , we really need to get some firepower in .

would love to know the thinking behind getting rid of rhodes .......did he want to go , what was the fee , there might be good reasons behind it all , but surely we need to get replacement in pronto....and please not a trouble maker or a fat cat , but someone that wants to progress with ITFC

Dos Santos hasnt gone yet but after his performance in the gold cup, big teams such as Inter Milan are looking at him. Also Lita has apparently signed for Middlesbrough after talks with Sheffield United so those 2 look off the radar.

I would imagine Proskin and the Celta Vigo youngster will be the only ones we might get.

I personally wouldn't want to see Beckford playing for town as i think he is a thug.
Priskin would be fine with me.

yeh i agree, never have liked Beckford either.
C'mon you blues..

Thug is a bit strong, yes he gets a bit off track but the guy has talent even get him on loan would be good, the trouble with most town fans is that they dont want change they always want the same sort of players in not no one different like beckford with his attitude.
