Trinidadian International Set for Trial Tuesday, 22nd Dec 2009 09:19
Town have invited Trinidadian midfielder Kerry Baptiste to spend a week on trial at Playford Road. Baptiste currently plays for Joe Public in his home country, the club owned by FIFA vice-president Jack Warner, with whom he has won five domestic titles.
The Blues are reported to be interested in taking the 28-year-old, an international team-mate of Carlos Edwards and Stern John, on loan in January, although a permanent move seems more likely if the former San Juan Jabloteh and North East Stars player impresses during his trial.
Right winger Baptiste, who has won 43 senior caps with Trinidad and Tobago, scoring eight goals, says he is looking forward to his spell with Town: “As a club, Joe Public Football Club has always been committed to getting players exposed to the highest level and uncovering football talent at grass roots level.
“As such, I am really looking forward to this opportunity to further my skills and put my club and country further on the international landscape.”
Joe Public general manager Sam Philip says his club likes to help its players chances to progress their careers: “We’re always looking for possible opportunities for our players, at youth and senior level, as well as to develop and support the great football talent that our club, Joe Public FC, has to offer.”
Club owner Jack Warner added: “I would like to thank my corporate partners for their continued assistance since none of this would have been possible without their assistance to Kerry and the rest of the lads at Joe Public Football Club during the 2009 season.”
Baptiste, who has also operated up front this season, is the all-time top scorer in the TT Pro League, Trinidad and Tobago's top division, having scored 102 goals, 48 of them coming this season.

8 goals in 43 matches at international level, does not sound that prolific. No menion of what his scoring record is with Joe Public. Still must be worth a look. The problems we have up front anyone would be worth a look.
Actually, looking at this youtube clip he seems like a tricky winger (a la Bobby Petta but on the right). He's number 14, pitty his strikers can't finish!!
el nino nice vid, he seems a good player from that vid, pace, good cross and a few times i saw he is not scared to shot from outside the box all in all i think he should get him and see how he does cos he could be a good player and see us into the prem in a few years
seems to me to be the type of keane tactic of bloating the squad with below avg players, something he has quite a talent for, healy, martin etc. anyway who knows it may be a good signing, looks like he thinks the reggae boyz are the key to our success.
Is it just me or does Keane seem to love signing players for Trinidad+Tobago? Just off the top of my head i can recall Kenwyn Jones, Edwards twice, Stern John, Dwight Yorke and this fella. Hopefully he'll keep it going and we'll have a really relaxed, deep-voiced reggae team
Why on Earth would we want another right winger?!? The main problem in the recent better run has been the distortion caused by trying to fit both Walters and Edwards into the starting line-up. And we have Peters who has also done well there. Absolutely the last position we need help.
Sorry about that- so wound up with the striker situation that didn't read the article properly. Still 40 goals from midfield isn't bad. I wonder if he can play up front?
