O'Connor Turned Down Hereford Move
O'Connor Turned Down Hereford Move
Monday, 6th Dec 2010 23:10

TWTD understands that League Two Hereford United were the club set to sign Town youngster Shane O’Connor on loan prior to the deadline a fortnight ago. The left-back or midfielder turned down the move, preferring to stay at Portman Road to fight for his place.

At the time, boss Roy Keane revealed that 20-year-old O’Connor had refused a switch but not the club involved: “Shane had an opportunity to go out. I spoke to him on Thursday and he wanted to stay and I’ve no problem with that.

"We feel that some of our young players can go out to get experience."

Meanwhile, New Zealander Tewi Te Pou is set for trials with Town, Watford and Reading, according to reports in his homeland.

The 19-year-old right-back or winger, who currently plays for Kiwi club Waikato, will spend three weeks in England trying to win himself a professional deal.

Elsewhere, Town are claimed to be eyeing League One Dagenham and Redbridge’s Romain Vincelot. The Blues, Charlton, Millwall and Reading are all said to have been regular visitors to Victoria Road this season to watch the Frenchman in action.

Vincelot began his career as a full-back but has impressed as a midfielder since switching roles last season. The 25-year-old previously played in France with Chamois Niortais and Gueugnon.

Tewi Te Pou, is this guy a Maori? Has there ever been a decent Maori footballer? They're absolute beasts!

Tewi Te Pou and Kerry Baptiste sign em up!

Taxi for Keane....................I'll even pay the fare!!!!

HEREFORD??? Are you serious, this lad is far better than this!! If you can't see this Keane then all hope is lost. Have no problem with him going out on loan, but to drop to the likes of Hereford is just insulting, no wonder the players lose confidence. INCREDIBLE!

Tewi Te Pou has an awesome name, therefore we should sign him, it's the same philosophy I apply whilst playing FM on the laptop, but seriously, I like it that we're looking in the lower leagues, but another midfielder, haven't we already got enough of them? Oh, and what's even better, they're not Irish or have played for Sunderland

Why would you want to send this guy out on loan!!!!!!!!!!

JohnScales added 23:56 - Dec 6
First off why would we send out our best LB on loan to anyone??

Why another midfielder?? An area that needs looking at but only sorting out our best formation to get the best out of current ones.

Lastly why the hell has our club become like the United Nations with New Zealand, Hungrary, Trindad & Tobago, Ireland and Sunderland. Just clans of players clumped together. It's pathetic buy some top players from the lower leagues like Le Fondre etc. Not some over paid, over hyped crap from the Premier Leauge reserves.

Hunger, Desire and whiff of common sense is what is stopping us becoming a top two challengers. Sadly Keane doesn't have the ability nor the personality to do so.

Don't know why SO'C has been given more of a go this season. It's not like anyone else has shone in the left back role this year. Or left mid...

Far too early to get excited about a Maori trialist no one has ever seen before, regardless of how cool their name is!

Happy to look at lower leagues for up and coming talent, but not sure that is what is required right now. Need experience at this level to dig us out of the hole we are currently in...

Agree 100% with you once again Garv, considering the number of players we have at the moment (injuries/suspensions/not fit/not good enough to play in our first team)- O'Connor for me is a natural first teamer. Hereford? Seriously?
We do need a permanent rightback- so can actually understand this signing if it comes off. Another kiwi though? (in Jan we would have 3 of them in the team). Hope he is good and NOT another terrible acquisition.
Tewi Te Pou - http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/tewi-te-pou/profil/spieler_135898.html
As for Romain Vincelot-
http://footballstats.metro.co.uk/metro/?Lang=0&CTID=11&CPID=83&pStr=Player&PLID=

Sounds like he is a defender/midfielder- versatile. Don't know anything about him really.

We won't end up signing anyone anyway,- if our current crisis continues Murray, Lavery, Carson will move up to the first team (cheap solution!). If we are in the bottom 3 come Xmas- there will be MASSIVE pressure to spend.....

Just a short while ago this lad was being praised by RK & now he is good enough for Hereford. Here's a better idea RK why don't you fook off to Hereford. When does this insanity end??

Seriously, when does this madness end?? I have a dread that it will end in Div 1. Deep joy! RK is a brand & I don't buy it. It is empty & has no substance.

Maybe we need to sell Wickham (£5m) and Lavery (£2m) in the January Transfer Window? Both are being headhunted by the Premier League Bigboys and it might be time to cash in....
Wickham to Tottenham
Lavery to Wolves
Would be a shame though. Love Wickham's strength and Lavery's mesmerising runs. The guy runs at full sprint for 94 minutes of every match!

WHY ! why did we even think about sending him out on loan , he should be starting week in week out for us !!! I rate him highly , lovely touch and good awearness and vision.

keane out , let someone like Curbs or O Neil take his job and get real players in that will take us out of this league not Twei Te Tou or whatever it is .

Come on Ipswich, Chris Hughton is available now. He has taken Newcastle to promotion and 11th place in the Premiership,- surely a better prospect than what we have right now....we would certainly be playing much more entertaining football than the "Lets Watch the Leaves turn Yellow" football that we play at the moment....

will we be doing the haka before each game ? and who would want to go to hereford all they do is breed cattle up there.have they got rid of that useless bloke keane yet ?

muhrensleftfoot added 06:48 - Dec 7
Another one of RKs bizarre decisions. O'Connor did so well last season, everyone praising him, then suddenly he doesn't get a look in this season, with RK preferring to play static immobile hoof it central defenders at left back.

Our best left back.More like our only left back.

BrettenhamBlue added 08:30 - Dec 7
O'Connor is our best left back and has conducted himself with great admiralty during this whole saga of not being in the team.
He should be our first team regular.
I can only imagine that Roy must have, at some point, fallen out with him?

sack the useless thing called keane

Calmingwind added 08:44 - Dec 7
soon there will be so many kiwi's in the town 11 that we will do the haka before every game... and we even wear all black away at times :)

Blue_it added 08:50 - Dec 7
this is silly, I respect keane but this guy is way too good, we need him making strides like last season, he was one of our better players last year

Calmingwind added 09:07 - Dec 7
cant understand why we would send him out on loan - i just cant and to hereford of all clubs, squad is full to the brim of loan's yet we are willing to loan out some of our best players from last year and most promising or just not play them. Tis madness i tell you.
I just get the feeling 3 points at preston on sat and theres a real chance Roy will be with us for another 10 games or have the cracks got so wide that theres no amount of paper large enough to cover them?
that makes me sound like i want us to loose - far from it i want us to smash PNE as its a long trip to make up there in the cold but hopfully you guys can understand what im getting at. i dont think we will be in a relegation battle but i can see us sitting around -15th, 16th place now all season, loose 5 win 1 draw 4 or something like that then repeat until the end of the season.

SO'C is a very good player and very versatile. LB, LM and even played well off the main striker in a game during the summer! He is a good LB with pace and great energy. I really think with Shane and Peters at full back supporting Townsend and Edwards we can provide serious threat in the wide areas.
With 3 in centre midfield (Leadbitter deep to cover space in front of defence) and a busy Priskin up front making space for wide players we would have a solid spine and real threat with speed out wide.
Smith & O'Dea are not full backs, lack pace and dont provide any width to support wide midfielders.

I assume it was a RK decision to send O'Connor out on loan. Another tactical mistake. He stood out last year and has been frozen out this season. Should be in the squad on a regular basis not being farmed out to gain experience. He can gain that playing at IT and benefit the team.
