Colback Confirms He Wants a Permanent Move
Colback Confirms He Wants a Permanent Move
Wednesday, 5th Jan 2011 10:40

On-loan midfielder Jack Colback has confirmed that he’d like to make a permanent move away from Sunderland, as revealed by boss Roy Keane over the weekend.

Colback told the club site that he'd prefer not to go on loan for a third time: “Ideally I want to settle down at a club. If Sunderland turned around and said I would be available on a permanent deal then I would have to look at that because I don't want to keep going out on loan.

"I want to become part of a team and build for the future. If that's at Ipswich, then fine."

But the left-sided midfield player or full-back, whose current spell is up on January 14th, isn’t entirely ruling out a further loan: “Anything can happen in football and time will tell.”

Speaking on Saturday, manager Keane said he could see Colback’s position: “I’ve had a conversation with Jack and sometimes a player wants something more permanent, which I understand 100%.

“Don’t think every player wants to go out on loan. What’s the benefit to Jack of going on loan at Ipswich? Some players want a bit of security, a bit of certainty about where their future lies.”

Keane confirmed that he’d like to sign last season’s Town Players’ Player of the Year but was concerned about the size of the fee Sunderland that might be after: “If you think Jack Colback’s going to be cheap, Brucey’s sold some young players over the last year or two, Martyn Waghorn [who joined Leicester for £3 million last summer] and people like that, for big money.

“Yes, of course, I’d like to sign him. But it’s dangerous having this conversation because he’s under contract at Sunderland. Jack Colback is my type of player, you know what you’re going to get with him — honesty, he’s hungry, he did well last year. But there’s a long way to go on that yet.

“If we can’t agree a fee with Sunderland, and we might not have any money to spend on Jack, then Jack will be going back or, worst case scenario, he’ll be going to another club, permanently.”

Colback says he doesn’t know whether Sunderland will allow him to play in the FA Cup at Chelsea on Sunday, although Keane has previously said that none of his loan players would be available.

Sign this lad I know some people have been giving this guy some grief but in my opinion he gives his all and is a quality player like he showed last year. I think his best position is Centre Mid and playing there will show how good a player this lad is. Now done to the money boys to sort the deal out so that means he wont be coming to us then !! Get him in !

well if they do then why not get rid of leadbitter to free up money , because to me he has underchieved all season, and cant take a corner, and his free kicks are non exsistant, im glad he has a 3 game ban, might make room for colback inside left and room for jamie peters aswell

Colback would be a fantastic signing for us. But its a question of price??

I imagine he won't be cheap. £1M+. If money is tight, there are other positions I would rather invest in first

Leadbitter is a king pin. Would like to see Colback and Oconnor form a left sided partnership. I reckon Colback is worth about 500-750 thou.

Blue lady,

but if we bought him quickly enough he could play in both as our player not a loanee

Why wouldn't Bruce let him play, the experience against Chelsea would do him good and I doubt Sunderland would want him to play in their Fa cup run and I doubt any clubs would be put off by him being cup tied.

I presume he's already cup tied for the CC though?

Forget Colback, put all the money into getting Chopra

He's a useful player but just upsets the balance of the midfield. There are more pressing priorities.

Help

Even if we bought him he cant play carling cup since he played for Sunderland against Colchester in an early round.

I can totally understand why Sunderland wouldnt want their player cup tied, even if they do not want to play him themselves. Imagaine we do not sign him permanantly and someone else makes an offer for him-Sunderland will be able to get a better price for him not being cup tied then if he is!

I hope we do sign him though, has a touch of class about him when played in the centre on a permanant basis and is the kind of player we should be building a team round in my opinion!

I dont think he adds anything to our midfield any different than Norris or Leadbitter ,money elsewhere is better spent .
As for people and Roy desperate for Chopra for the over priced £4 million, i for one am glad Evans said no .Since 2007 Chopra has played 121 championship goals scoring 52 goals (2.3 ratio) compared to our very own Jason Scotland for less than a million who has played 108 games scoring 52 goals (2 ratio) ,who is the better value for money ?
As i have said for two seasons now is that the problem doesnt lie solely at the strikers door ,we do not contribute many goals from anywhere on the pitch ,and the service to our strikers is minimal . We talk about shots on goal stats but if we are honest are a strikers missing that many good chances or oppositions keepers having blinders every week ?
The whole team needs an overhaul ,the players to get us in the playoffs are here we just need some direction and to get the best out of them ,not throw money after more ,although it would give Keane some more weeks excuses "time to gel", "not match fit yet "

Depends on the price. £500K would be more than sufficient I would have thought.

Trouble is Steve Bruce always ensures he wrings every last penny out of his cast-offs or he just doesn't sell. Can see us getting him for £1-1.25m, and to be honest I have my doubts if he is worth that or is able to kick on to the next level. I reckon he is about as good as he going to get - a reliable journeyman footballer - a good buy but at only the right price. And we still need a proven goal scorer.

Help he has already played for Sunderland in the Carling Cup so could only play in the FA. I think we will either sign him or get him on a season long (which will be Evans choice to give the new manager the choice of signing him or not come June). if we sort this agreed he can play sunday and would be an asset to the club.

Whoever we sign, I just hope we get the deal(s) done quickly. I don't think I could cope with nearly a month of ifs, buts and maybes!! COYB!

no better than what we've got, he's played in the team for 18 months and we've been crap so why bring him in, some of the midfields that come down Portman Road make ours look like boys, why cant we find players like that?
