Liverpool's Comolli Watches Town
Liverpool's Comolli Watches Town
Sunday, 20th Feb 2011 09:37

Liverpool’s director of football strategy Damien Comolli was at Portman Road yesterday to run the rule over Town striker Connor Wickham. Liverpool have long been linked with the 17-year-old, although Spurs, who were also represented at the 1-1 draw with Hull, are understood to be the frontrunners for the youngster's signature.

Tottenham’s academy manager John McDermott and their assistant technical co-ordinator Chris Ramsey watched the match along with former Town coach Charlie Woods, who also now works at White Hart Lane.

Meanwhile, one of this morning’s papers reports that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are also continuing to keep tabs on the England U21 international.

Elsewhere, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has praised the quality of players coming through in the Championship: “It looks more and more that there are many good young players coming out of these clubs too.

“Look at Nottingham Forest for example — they are all good young players. Derby too, and Ipswich, who we played recently, have produced Connor Wickham. So there are good young players down there.

“Maybe the academy rules help them too, because teams cannot take young players from other clubs’ areas.”

I think Arsene Wenger is right. And I think if England are to get more international success, Premier League clubs need to put more faith in the talent coming through at Championship and League One level.

i really hope we get a full season from wickham next year it could mean us going up. its a catch 22 if he keeps banging them in the big boys will come sniffing and if the fee is big enough he`l be gone. lets hope he stays with us and get us to the promised land and then he doesnt have to go anywhere.

Can't see the point in the story.

We are all well aware that Wickham is being watched by premier clubs most weeks.

''Wickham was watched by 19000 people yesterday... some of them came from London, Liverpool.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz''

you might not believe this, BUT, apparently even 640 of them came from Hull, maybe hes gonna sign for Hull, they sent far more people that any other location...... thats obviously the basis for a news story.......

Bottom line is Connor will leave ITFC in the summer. Just hope Clegg has put a massive clause in the contract.

Does that count as tapping-up by Wegner?

If Carroll's worth £35 million Conners got be worth £10 million!

I still think we should sell Liverpool Lisbie for a "bargain" knock down price of £15 million, 12 million for cash as he's scored as many as Carroll has!

Just a matter of time - at least we are playing him, getting something out of him before his impending sale in the summer. Hope we get a decent privce for him, that's all. We cannot hold him back. All the very best to him, and when he's scoring goals for England - we can still say he is one of ours.

If conner is going to leave.. then i really hope he goes to man utd or arsenal or Liverpool where he will get looked after and youngsters are given a chance. think spurs would kill wickham bit like they did to Bent and i want the lad to do well .

Depressed,YOU may not see the point in the story, but it brings about some discussion on here. If that wasnt on here then, what would you, me ,and everyone else on here be doing............waiting for something ,anything to pop up and get us talking again. So REALLY no point in your response, why not take a pill or two and lie down .

Connor had a mediocre game yesterday which could work in either way. His price might have lessened or on the bright side they may have lost interest. Why are Spurs front-runners anyway?
0

dirtydingusmagee added 19:14 - Feb 20
Not sure that Spurs are front runners in that sense, think it was probably that they were first to express an interest ,when Keane was looking for loan players. Could be wrong.

Perhaps we should all stop speculating as to where young Mr Wickham will end up playing in the future ( he,s going to leave at some point) and just enjoy his fledgling career whilst he is still an Ipswich Town player.

Dirtydingusmagee...As others have pointed out as well, the fact that Wickham is being watched is common knowledge to us all.
Why then do we need to be told every week.
Don't have the urge to comment on irrelevant gossip, unlike yourself, and again, unlike yourself, i have a life away from my PC !

paulnstar - a realistic view. As pointed out before although we are now a vast improvement from Keanes days, on yesterdays performance we still have a long way to go
