Fry Hopeful Peterborough Can Beat Blues to Green
Fry Hopeful Peterborough Can Beat Blues to Green
Tuesday, 7th Jun 2011 14:36

Peterborough chairman Barry Fry says he’s hopeful that his club can fend off competition from the Blues and Crystal Palace to sign Dagenham and Redbridge winger Danny Green. The 22-year-old was first linked with Town early last month.

Fry, who is currently away at the Football League AGM in Cyprus, where Town chief executive Simon Clegg is representing the Blues, has already spoken to Daggers boss John Still about Green, who he hopes to recruit in the next few days: "We are aware that people like Ipswich and Crystal Palace are in for the boy as well, but we're very hopeful that might be concluded over this week."

Former Northampton and Nottingham Forest youth player Green dropped into non-league with Bishop’s Stortford before signing for the Daggers in May 2009.

Since then, the 6ft-tall Harlow-born midfielder has scored 27 goals in 93 starts and four sub appearances. Green, who has also been linked with Sheffield Wednesday, is contracted to the Essex side until 2013.

Elsewhere, former Blues loanee Giovani Dos Santos is reportedly a £4 million target of Sevilla. Spurs midfielder Dos Santos spent last season on loan at Racing Santander, recently saying that he would like to return there next season.

At the way we're going, we've more chance of signing Danny Boyle.

Well if P'boro beat us to a target , whilst not panicking in any way, maybe shows other players perception of our ambitions

I wish Ipswich would get there finger out and hurry up. If we miss out on Danny Green we've made a serious mistake. I watched Daggers play 15 times last season and he was quality in every single match I saw him in. I am sure he would be good enough for championship and if not, well worth the risk.

John Still used to manage Posh, so either a) he's bitter and will want to screw them over or b) he feels some connection with them and will want to do them a favour.

Can't remember how he left Posh, but I suspect the latter. Posh are not short of a penny either.

Danny Boyle? That's a bit ambitious, more like Susan Boyle

If we don't get him Barry, it's because we don't want him. You cheeky cockney sparrer! (unless we lose a bidding war of course)

@Brogan - Clegg was a Major in 7 Para, definitely not to be f*cked with lightly. Might not be able to sign any players, but can certainly handle himself.

OliverStorey - Sorry, but we can't have watched the same Danny Green. He has only got one foot, if the opposition's defence have even half a brain between them the will work out he ALWAYS cuts inside and they can just block him off. Never ever goes down the line. He may look good at Dagenham, but remember this is in comparison to people like Darren Currie! Who now runs at a massive top speed of 2.5mph compared to the 4.3mph he could manage while with us! I genuinely think I could run faster backwards!!!

IMO no loss if we don't sign him, but would be ok-ish cover. - I'm far more worried that a player would rather go to Peterborough than us though... says a lot really!!

A strike rate of less than one in three, bearing in mind it's at a lower level. Is he really the answer? I doubt it. But then I don't suppose Norwich fans were that thrilled when they signed Holt

When was the last time we competed with another club for a signing and they joined us? I don't remember any competition for Fulop and Scotland last summer, and the year before that I don't remember fierce battles so sign the likes of Edwards, Leadbitter and Martin. Do Ipswich only ever sign players other clubs don't want these days? Come on ITFC, make some signings and restore the faith!

IMO ITFC need to recruit a group of experienced players with Championship experience. For me this guy doesn't fit the bill, unless he is being brought in as one for the future.

I was at the 'Boys of '81' do the other night.

Alan Brazil was drumming up support for bids to buy a Town shirt signed by all the players there + Arnold Muhren. He kept saying that £700 was a bargain because it will never happen again. I wondered what he meant? Did he mean that the '81 team will never again be reassembled? or that Town will never win a European trophy again?

When a player from Dagenham and Redbridge can't decide to join us, over Palace and Posh, I suspect the latter. How far have we slumped in 30 years?

No problem. He's played for Dagenham and Redbridge so surely he can manage to play for Ipswich and Peterborough.

FFS get over your selves....Clegg is at the AGM as is every other representatives of championship teams. He didn't arrange it to be in Cyprus but he has to attend. As for Fry Fook him....if he gets this player it is because we aren't interested....let's face it Posh are a yo yo club of League 1 and the Championship and will be about the best they can hope for....
