Ingimarsson Also at Town Today
Ingimarsson Also at Town Today
Thursday, 9th Jun 2011 22:40

TWTD understands that in addition to Cardiff striker Michael Chopra, released Reading central defender Ivar Ingimarsson was also at Portman Road today to discuss joining the Blues.

Like Chopra, the 33-year-old free agent underwent a medical and talked terms with negotiations set to continue on Friday.

Capped 30 times by Iceland, Ingimarsson began his career in his home country with Valur and IBV before joining Torquay United on loan in October 1999.

A £200,000 switch to Brentford followed a month later, then in July 2002, having been linked with George Burley's Blues, the just over 6ft tall defender joined Wolves on a free transfer but made little impact at Molineux before moving on to Reading for £175,000 in October 2003.

Since then Ingimarsson, a close friend of former Blue Hermann Hreidarsson, has been an important figure at the Madejski Stadium, making 276 starts and five sub appearances, scoring 12 goals and also captaining the side. Injuries, however, limited his involvement to 13 starts and one appearance from the bench last season.

Town are also understood to have made an offer for Preston’s Irish international Sean St Ledger and have been linked with Bournemouth’s Jason Pearce with Paul Jewell likely to be looking for two central defenders this summer with Gareth McAuley and his deputy Troy Brown leaving the club along with youngster Tom Eastman.

The Blues switching their attention to Ingimarsson is likely to mean that earlier target Nyron Nosworthy is on his way to either Reading or Crystal Palace, who are also believed to have shown interest in the 30-year-old Sunderland man.

More very encouraging news. These are exactly the sort of players we should be trying to sign. Hopefully we'll end up with a suitable blend of tried and tested experienced players with a smattering of promising youngsters from the lower/ foreign leagues. Good stuff Mr Jewell!

Ingimarsson is a class act, dont let his age concern you he barely looks into his 20's, I know some reading season ticket holders, they rave about this guy and in general they are sorry to see him go, he is EXACTLY what we need right now and i predict he will make an impact comparable to mogga, venus and de vos.

If we don't sign either of these then Clegg has gotta go, but I have faith this time.

Good stuff.

Add St Ledger, and along with Chopra and Ingimarrson we are starting to cook.

Couple more in then pre season and then like someone else said hopefully we will have a good mix of players, those that have been there and a couple of young bucks all put through their paces together before kick off in August.

COYB!
