Owls Confirm Scotland Interest
Owls Confirm Scotland Interest
Wednesday, 22nd Jun 2011 20:06

Sheffield Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric has confirmed his club’s interest in Town striker Jason Scotland, as revealed by TWTD a week ago. The Trinidad and Tobago international looks certain to move on during the close season with Paul Jewell having added Michael Chopra and Nathan Ellington to his squad already this summer.

Mandaric says the Owls are working on a deal to bring the 32-year-old to Hillsborough: “We are interested in him and we are trying to see what can be done.”

League One Wednesday may not find the financial side of the move straightforward with the ex-Dundee United and Dunfermline man likely to be on a significant wage having joined the Blues from Premier League Wigan for £750,000 in August last year.

The striker, who has a year left on his Town contract, was close to returning to his former club Swansea on loan in February but the move broke down after the clubs were unable to agree a financial package.

Scotland scored 10 goals in 35 starts and 10 sub appearances for the Blues during 2010/11, but failed to convince new manager Jewell that he is the man to fire the club back into the Premier League.

Earlier today, Brighton boss Gus Poyet played down reports linking his club with a move for Scotland.

Looks certain Scotland will move on, but can Wednesday really afford him? Am guessing ITFC want him off their books, so perhaps a low fee - even still wages could be a stumbling block.

We will give him a season loan where we pay most of his wages. We always get the raw end of a deal !!

Bye, good luck. Sorry you were not used properly, but you never showed enough commitment in games for me. Im not sure it'll be to wednesday though.

I agree with the guys saying that he was unlucky being played on his own when he clearly said as he joined that he wants to play in a 442
But it's time to move on Jason it didn't work out
Sheffield Wednesday or Brighton might play him properly

Feel a bit sorry for Scotland must have played 15 to 20 games as a lone striker even John Duncan would have seen thats a NO NO

Even though he was often isolated he seldom put enough effort in and that's why the fans slammed him, was he just unfit or just couldn't be arsed?

Chopra, Ellington, Wickham and Priskin. As good as any strike force in the championship on paper. Unfortunately football is not played on paper but still a cause for some optimism albeit I think Priskin is the weak link.

Yet ANOTHER Terrible dross signing from Ke*ne, who was overpriced - and on stinkin'ly big wages to come play for a SHI* manager.... The only way that scum bag could ever sign players, was to sign them on an over priced fee, and pay them heap loads...

Ke*ne was never a manger - he was an infection...

*infections are hard to get rid of... They hang around for ages after you think they're gone...!

Whoppit. I have been reading this forum for a long time, as an avid town fan. I generally like the balance of views. However

whoppit is right. Most of Keanos signings failed to impress and he got rid of players who were solid and good (David Wright, Jordan Rhodes etc). even armchair fans were complaining as you could see a mile off that these players couldn't hack it when push came to shove. Leadbitter? Overpriced. Edwards? inconsistent. Scotland? don't know what went wrong there really. Even armchair soccer fans can see good and bad signings. When Chopra was signed it was a big hurrah. when scotland et al were signed it wasn't.

Even though he didn't live up to the expectations we all thought he could deliver, I still feel he contributed a lot to us. Especially that he had very little quality balls being delivered to him and playing as the lone frontman. He did good for us the time he has spent so far, and again I feel Priskin iz the weaker of the two. Scotland in my opinion was here for the club and fans and didn't come here entirely for the money and of course wanted to play his football. If he does go it won't be a huge blow but I bow down to his efforts he has put in for the club.

I have to say I really do rate this guy, for me, alongside Chopra, he is our most natural goalscorer. He does need to get his fitness levels sharpened up, and play in a different side, *with some creative players in*.... this guy has had little or no service and still had a pretty decent record until about February when he had given up, clearly not happy at the lack of service and general standard of the rest of the team. I predict he will get a hatfull of goals at the next club he plays for, if he does not stay, but I really hope he does stay and proves people wrong, as I think next season, with some creative players, will be a different story, from a striking perspective at least...

Ten goals without good service isn't the worst record, given that amount of games. IMHO Priskin is the weaker of the two.

tbh, he would be a sick signing for them! did score 10 last season and he knows he coulda done better! ih he'd had a striking partner in connor for the entire time, could have got round 15-20! Never liked him much but this could be a mistake!

At least when he got the ball I always thought he'd try and score - which is quite useful for a striker ... - never really feel that with Priskin & even if he did try, I'd have less confidence he'd score
