Wright Back Training With Town
Wright Back Training With Town
Thursday, 18th Aug 2011 22:40

TWTD understands that former Town keeper Richard Wright is back training with Paul Jewell’s squad at Playford Road. However, the 33-year-old appears unlikely to rejoin the club despite the Blues requiring goalkeeper cover since Márton Fülöp’s departure to West Brom.

Wright was recently on trial at Cardiff and is more likely to be offered a deal by the Bluebirds, where ex-Town keeper-coach James Hollman is now on the staff.

Ex-England man Wright is back with Town to keep himself fit, having spent time at Playford Road earlier in the summer after being released by Sheffield United at the end of 2010/11.

Jesus - Can't we just sign him up on a cheap deal..? If things go to plan he can be on the bench every game to prevent ALB doing so....! Seriously - good for all parties/fans/RW kids....eveyones a winner... He's made his money, offer him peanuts to be sub - SURELY he'll accept, and stop touting himself as a free agent/trainer.

Eventually he can become Keeper coach... Just sign him up, and lets keep it in the family...

Let's move forward, not backwards. Surely PJ has other targets? After letting Murphy and Fulop go, knowing Stockdale can be recalled - it would be madness if PJ hasn't got something lined up - and better than Wright. PJ must be aware that ALB is a terrible keeper - why on earth PJ gave him a two year deal is beyond me.

ok so we cant put priskin on the buses cause of the greed thing but perhaps we could multi -option his talents as a sub tealady and pie packer..think about that and let me know your thoughts

Lee-Barrett was doing OK at the time Jewell offered him a new contract, and he was in the first team ahead of Fulop, on a massive salary, and Murphy, also no doubt well paid. I expect he was fairly cheap to sign up, but I have since lost all confidence in Lee-Barrett due to poor performances.

Stockdale is a constant worry due to this 24-hour recall clause. I am not sure we should rely on a loanee like that in goal, especially as we have no chance of signing him permanently. He just let in five goals too.

I envy Southampton a bit having a good, solid keeper like Kelvin Davis. It's a shame we can't get someone like that who could with with us years and whom we could build a team in front of.

His plan is to remain a free agent after the window closes. He is happy as long as he is training and this situation suits him. There is ALWAYS a keeper crisis at club and being a free agent means he can be signed after the deadline.

I'd prefer it if the headline read 'right', and not 'Wright'. Carlos is a winger - a good one - but still a winger.

IP3 - So you really think RW is an unpaid reserve keeper?

Thats a new one, a footballer working for free!!

Remember - this man chose to clean David Seaman's boots rather than play for us which directly resulted in use paying 4.5 million for Sereni and signing an injured Andy Marshall. Sholudn't let him anywhere near our club......

Big Gaz.... are you really having a go at him for joining one of the giants of world football??
0

big_gaz67 added 10:59 - Aug 19
Yes - because we were in the premiership at the time. And if you are local and call yourself an Ipswich fan as he did nothing should be better than that. He killed his club career, his England career and left this club with problems all for a few more quid. Scandalous.

PS Are the the giants of world football who have never won a European Cup and took 2 1/2 hours to score against a defence containing McA and Delaney?

Big Gaz... their form against us is irrelevant, i was talking about the scenario in 2001 when he made the move.

They won the Premier League in the year that he went.

It did turn out to be a bad move, but thats with the benefit of hindsight.

He saw the opportunity to become Arsenals No1, and potentially Englands No1.

Unfortunately it didnt work out for him.

Maybe you have no ambition?

big_gaz67 added 11:15 - Aug 19
It has nothing to do with ambition - all to do with money!

Remember we came 5th that season!

Are you more likely to be selected for you country displaying excellent performances for a team which is likely to need to do a bit of defending in the premiership or by getting a flat bum on the bench.

His head was turned by that Jonathon Barnett.

Marshalls_Mullet added 11:19 - Aug 19
He went to a bigger club to improve his chances of winning medals (which he acheived) and adding England caps.

You know full well that performing at a bigger clubs increases your chances at international level. Please tell me where this isnt the case?

You are basing your views on hindsight, he will have moved thinking that he could perform to a level to establish himself as number one.

Of course money was a factor, it is a factor to everyone in every walk of life.

big_gaz67 added 11:24 - Aug 19
He only made 12 appearances for the Gunners!

Money is more a factor if you have'n't got any. If you are a well paid premiership player already it's called greed.

I keep telling you..... hindsight man, hindsight.
