No New Injuries Ahead of Portsmouth Clash
No New Injuries Ahead of Portsmouth Clash
Monday, 17th Oct 2011 10:24

Blues boss Paul Jewell has no new injuries ahead of Tuesday’s game against Portsmouth at Portman Road. The Town manager will be looking for his side to extend their unbeaten run to six matches and win their fourth home game in a row.

Jewell said: “We’ve got one or two bumps and bruises from Saturday, as you always do, and with three games in a week we’ve got to make sure we temper our training.”

The Blues manager says his side might have lost Saturday’s draw at Cardiff a few months ago with the Bluebirds' second goal having come from a controversial penalty: “I think the way the goal came about knocked the stuffing out of us a little bit.

“Even though we should have won the game, when it went to 2-2 with 20 minutes to go we probably would have lost that not so long ago.

“At least we showed a lot more character and determination than maybe we were earlier in the season.”

Jewell says he hopes former skipper David Norris will be given a warm reception on his return to Portman Road: "I think Chuck is well thought of here, certainly by the staff and the players. He's a terrific professional and there were no hard feelings when he left.

"They made him a great offer and it was too good an opportunity for him and his family to turn down, which we couldn't match.

"We all wish him well and hopefully, after tomorrow's game, he can have a good season with Portsmouth.

"They had a good result in their last game against Barnsley and Chuck scored a great goal. They're big, they're strong and they are going to be a threat from set plays.

"We know it is going to be a tough game and quite often when a team changes their manager, they seem to have an upturn in results and changing their manager might just do the trick for them."

Meanwhile, Blues midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is set to launch his musical career, London-based rapper Chipmunk has revealed: "We've known each other since we were kids at Arsenal.

"Jay is singing on a track for me. And he's gonna play five-a-side with me so I can get my first touch back."

JET - I don't know if you read these notes, but you are running low on credits here.

ITFC fans are a patient lot, but we would be more interested in hearing what you are doing about your fitness, and how you can link the midfield and the front two. Arsenal fans don't rate you. Bluebirds thought you were a waste of space, and we have seen nothing to suggest that either were wrong.

Wakey! Wakey!

I think perhaps his future lies in rap. He has the haircut. He has the attitude and he certainly lacks the brains so rapping is surely his forte in life.

Sorry to say that I think a career in "music" might turn out to be more suited. Not impressed with anything I've seen of him on the pitch. I'm not against players doing a bit of the media celeb business but only after they've put in a career shift like, say, Ian Wright - until then, JET, concentrate on your day job. No room for Arsenal big-time Charlies at Portman Road thank you very much.

JET has not set the place on fire...would rather him give his full attention to ITFC and leave all that rapping to the summer...

Man, give JET a bit of time - he's played in about 7 different positions and never been settled in a first team in his career!

He's shown flashes but needs to be moulded into a definite position where Jewell feels he is best (striker for me) - otherwise he is just an expensive replacement for Peters!

JET when you get boxed in a corner and skin 4 players that dont mean nothing to these so called fans as they always need to blame someone. You have bearly played and you have been a nice bloke to talk to on that sideline. Knowing how the so called "Ipswich Fans" are if you score a goal you will be god. So good luck with the musical career and dont forgett 7:45 KO tuesday ;)

Surely when you are paid thousands to play and train for a football club, your main focus should be on getting your game up to standard.
It just seems to me that JET is not interested in getting match fit or giving his best for the town, he is more worried about his street cred and getting respect from his "home-boys" than getting respect from the fans who pay his wages.
Oh who am I kidding, I forgot the fans are not important to these type of overpaid, overhyped, 17-23 year old players who think they are the sh*t before they acheive anything in the game.
Call me cynical but JET should concentrate on one thing and one thing only, putting in a good 90 minutes of work on a saturday afternoon, rather than becoming a crap...sorry rap affiliate artist.

Agree JET not produced (yet) but some of these comments are a little harsh. Seem to remember Scotland being lambasted and now he's turned it around and looks the business.

The real story here is: HOW CAN A BANKRUPT CLUB OFFER SO MUCH CASH TO NORRIS? - unless we really didn't want to keep.

JET is just a typical modern day player who gets paid an extortianate amount of money for doing something they should love and not delivering. The bloke is a poser who is not an 'Ipswich player.' Get rid.
p.s. Keano would have been lambasted by now for this signing, amongst others......

I think we need to lay off JET and give him a chance. We are only 2 months into the season. There is plenty of time for him to show his value to the club and I have no doubt he will in the long term. Remember everyone is allowed a hobbie outside of a proffesion. It just happens that rapping is his.

Jet is still very young ,is at a new club and is still getting up to required fitness ,he has scored 2 goals and has one assist in the 5 games he has started .
I believe he will come very good under Jewells guidance and would certainly rather have him on the bench than the likes of Healy,Quinn,Peters,Murray ,Priskin which we had this time last season .But as shown the majority on here want instant sucesss and world class players straight away ,give the boy some support and start him at the head of the diamond instead of Leadbitter who has had a lot more chances to prove himself and creates and scores very little

I think you hit the nail on the head. We did not want Norris, I for one was pleased to see him go.

As for him getting a good reception.... Not likely

I hope he comes good but at the mo makes no effort off the ball, I was shouting at him on Saturday to get on the pitch while he ambled outside the touch line when we had a throw. Come on jet, put your back into it ffs.

Good news that there are no new injury worries before tomorrow nights game.
Some of the comments regarding JET are a little harsh, he has struggled with injury since the Leeds game and has played in several positions since arriving at Portman Road, personally I think he will come good in time under this management, besides that PJ wouldn't consider him for selection if he wasn't putting a shift in, also the lads entitled to have interests outside of football as long as it's not disturbing his football commitments.
Nothing more than patience required here imo.

Give the lad a chance. He is young and obviously has something about him.

I believe JET will prove his worth given time. The team/squad needs a blend of players. We all moaned when Keane built of team of workmen with no spark/creativity. Unfortunately, young and creative players with the ability to turn a game, do blow hot and cold.

Good performances and better consistency will come with time, experience and SUPPORT.

I have to say JET has been a disappointment so far and Saturdays appearance did nothing to enhance his reputation. I believe as others do, he is best suited to play up front where he was successful with Doncaster Rovers. The Cardiff fans gave him a terrible reception on Saturday which was indicative of how they rated him. Really hope he does come good but have my doubts. As for Norris the man who really wanted to stay , the player we supported wholly with the 'Blackpool gesture' and who we paid handsomely for being injured on numeropus occasions.
He will get no cheers from me.

I agree that some of these comments seem very harsh. If you look at the TWTD results page he has 2 MOTM awards, the same as Chopra and Cresswell, and has struggled with injuries recently. He has the most natural flair of anyone in the squad and still has time to mature.

As for Norris, I think it would be a shame if he got a bad reception. Kept us out of serious trouble last year and was the most consistent performer. I think he deserves a little bit of love despite turning down his contract.

Let's give JET a chance.

And JET, a piece of advice for you. There is an expression "perception is reality"...think about it. Good luck.
