Town and Watford in for Ward
Town and Watford in for Ward
Thursday, 8th Mar 2012 12:29

Town are reported to be battling Watford for the signature of Portsmouth defender or midfielder Joel Ward. The 22-year-old was one of the Blues’ three Pompey targets during January with a fee agreed but the switch breaking down over personal terms.

Portsmouth are continuing to look to offload players to ease their financial situation with Liam Lawrence recently moving to Cardiff on loan and Erik Huseklepp having joined Birmingham.

Although the transfer window is closed, Town can sign players on loan initially with previously agreed permanent deals being formalised in the summer. Peterborough recently recruited Crawley striker Tyrone Barnett on that basis.

Meanwhile, the Blues and West Ham are amongst up to five clubs said to be chasing Portsmouth keeper Stephen Henderson.

Like Ward, Town agreed a fee for the 23-year-old Irishman in January with the move collapsing due to personal terms.

The Blues also approached Portsmouth central defender Jason Pearce in January but were unable to agree a fee with Pompey.

Speaking to TWTD last week, chief executive Simon Clegg confirmed that the Blues' pursuit of some or all of the Pompey trio was a “live issue”.

Elsewhere, former Blues striker and coach Chris Kiwomya has joined Notts County as their development squad manager.

Suppose this is good news but have been impressed with Smith and Delaney in recent matches. Couldnt agree personal terms last time so he doesnt exactly appear to be dying to wear a town shirt. Nonetheless seems like a good player so why not.

He's very poor compared to Pearce.

I bet Clegg gets out bid by the Pompey fans.

Would prefer us to sign Murphy and go for Pearce plus the Villa Keeper.
Then look for another Centre Back.

Or are we after Ward and Murphy with Scotland and Leadbitter being released

Even if it was us and Waltham Abbey, he would sign for Waltham Abbey.

at this stage of the season, any new additions to the squad will be more then welcome in our pursuit of a top ten finish.

ward has obviously been identified as one of those 'young and hungry' type players we need to take us forward, plus he's going to be relatively cheap considering pompeys perilous financial situation. sign him up i say.

He's a right back (or at least he was on Tuesday).

I don't know why we persue players whose hearts are not in it. ... Oh yes I do! It is because Clegg behaves like all the time like a market stall bargain hunter. He does not look at the quality of the product but only whether it is cheap or not.

Are we hoping they are now desperate enough to take the wages on offer here they would be better off looking at the local league Bury currently pay more per game than we do so no surprise we can keep/get anyone

He had his chance to come to Ipswich and blew it by trying to be greedy, Watford are welcombe to him or let him stew on no wages at Pompey, along with Norris who thought the grass was greener.

Bournemouth blue - A WIDE defender or midfielder. I wasnt disputing that he could play defence or midfield. My point is he plays wide rather than centrally.

newboy .. cant get or keep anyone ?

Like Chopra,Jet,Cresswell,Bullard,Bowyer,Murphy,Drury,Stevenson

Who cant we keep ? Murray and Carson both signed new contracts ,or are you still harping on about wonder boys like Eastman Brown OConnor and Lavery .
Norris for one has already found that the grass is not always greener and more players need to realise clubs are in trouble and wages need to be dropped .Its fans like you who would rather we bankrupt the club offering ridiculous wages .
The past few weeks have seen we can compete with the best teams in the league without risking the club

would be great to sign Rangers players there a good level comprable to football in our leauge and above and the other thing is that Scotts have a great sense of loyalty and will battle tirlessly something that our players are showing and we need to compliment that with some of these guys down here and for ex Rangers players it also lifts there profile of our club as scotts watch out for there ex players in the past and now and when we get promotion next season it will do there chances no harm for international duties for Scotland ...oh did I mention were going up next season ....well better get your season ticket cos were gonna have afantastic year next year Norwich move over were on our way COYB !!!

TractorTrog - Keeper Neil Alexander would be a good start (if he's still there). Never understood why Jim let him go in the first place!

Can't see us being ahead of any of these clubs. Although we have to live within our means, we also need to compete with other Championship clubs over fees. Sadly, it would seem we don't do that. Hope PJ has a Plan B next time.
