Chambers Deal Close - Report
Chambers Deal Close - Report
Monday, 2nd Jul 2012 22:31

Former Nottingham Forest central defender Luke Chambers will undergo a medical and sign for the Blues on Tuesday, according to a report from Midlands sources this evening. The 26-year-old, whose Forest contract was up at midnight on Saturday, has been tipped for a Bosman free move to Town since last Wednesday.

The Blues, as is their usual policy, remain tight-lipped regarding progress on the proposed deal, but we understand landing the former Northampton skipper is one of Paul Jewell’s main priorities this summer.

Kettering-born Chambers started his career with the Cobblers, breaking into their first team on the final day of the 2002/03 season as a 17-year-old before establishing himself in the side and helping them to promotion from League Two.

In January 2007 Chambers joined Forest for an undisclosed fee and since then he has gone on to make 208 starts and 20 substitute appearances, scoring 21 goals, and was their captain during 2011/12.

Chambers, Forest’s 2010/11 Player of the Year, has previously been linked with Leicester, Wigan and West Brom, while Leeds were mentioned in connection with the 6ft 1in tall defender over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Blues midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been looking for Ipswich-based goalkeepers for use in target practice at Playford Road on Tuesday morning via Twitter.

“Back home, gonna hit the training ground tomorrow and get the balls out and get the feet going,” he tweeted. “Who from Ipswich is a goalkeeper? I could need some assistance tomorrow morning.”

Having received replies, he added: “It’s hard to choose, lol. I don’t know who’s any good *ScratchesHead*.”

Club captain season after next if Edwards is no longer with us ! Hopefully if he signs for us ( I've done counting my chickens with Town in any transfer deals now) Chambers and Smith will go on to form a formidable CB partnership, that will see the end of "calamity" Delaney as a 1st choice CB.

Just need that bloomin GK now !!

I would like JET's tweets if he hadn't blocked me. Seems a nice guy but it also seems a bit of dry humour offends him.

This along with Davies,Loach and Sonko being given another year and I'll be happy. Good decent players signed early in the window and maybe a surprise at the end of it.HAPPY.

I was at university in Nottingham for three years and had the benefit of seeing him play a lot. I can categorically say he was Forest's most consistent player whenever I saw them. Top player at this level. Would be an absolutely superb signing. What a coup!

Sounds good.

One more centre back after this would really sort out our defence I think. Cheap youngster maybe.

Hopefully Chambers and Smith can form a good partnership, but I don't think Delaney is as bad as some make out and can definitely play a part. He, along with another will be good backup.

Then again Chambers hasn't even signed yet! Let's not count chickens.

I'm pleased the club are staying tight-lipped on potential signings, Clegg n Jewell have been getting alot of grief on here from fans about r so-called dealing 80-90% of the players linked have been rumours nothing else I could name 30 players I know for a fact we have not enquired or bid for: it doesn't matter we have only signed 1 player as long as by Blackburn we have 5/6 signings I'd rather wait & sign decent players: Hewlett n now Chambers it shows at least this summer we are signing potential n quality another 3/4 players like this I'll be very happy COYB!!!!

Haven't really seen this guy play but by the sounds of things he's top class. If true, great signing Jewell and Clegg!

Completely agree with Garv. Very positive signing if it goes through - the fact that he's a defensive right back as well as a centre half is no bad thing either as Edwards & Hewitt (from what I'm hearing) are more attack minded full backs.
I would still like AN Other centre half to sign, Keogh would be good, as we are still light in terms of quality cover. The abuse Damien Delaney gets is unfair though, he's been a decent player for us, especially when partnered with McAuley. When he has had poorperfo

@ sindre, "great newd"?! Didn't know you were into that sort of thing or how you know, but willing to take your word for it! Haha. Would be very happy if he joined us though. Add Craig Dawson on a seasons loan or Richard Keogh to the defence, Scott Loach in net, Gary McKay-Steven to the midfield and either Gary Madine or Jamie Vardy up top and I'll be a happy tractor boy

... to finish that sentence ...
When he has poor performances, it has coincided with difficulties for the entire defence & when he has been partnered with somebody that he has not built up an understanding, which is crucial for centre halves. To be fair to both himself & Tommy Smith, once they got a run of games together they both improved dramatically, despite both being left footers & neither being a leader type centre half.
Should Chambers sign I would be as happy to have him alongside Delaney as Smith ... or Keogh.
