Town are understood had an offer accepted by Watford for keeper Scott Loach. The 24-year-old former England U21 international, who we reported was the subject of a Town enquiry in late June, was previously with the Blues’ academy between 1997 and 2000 before his family returned to hometown Nottingham.
The 6ft 4in tall keeper established himself as Watford’s number one during 2008/09 but after a drop in form fell out of favour at Vicarage Road last season with Manchester United’s Tomasz Kuszczak — Town’s number one keeper target until he joined Brighton - coming in on loan.
In addition to his spells as a youngster with the Blues — where he will have worked with current keeper-coach Malcolm Webster and returning academy director Bryan Klug - and Nottingham Forest, Loach was also with Southwell United and Lincoln City's youth set-ups, spending time on loan with the likes of Bourne Town, Radcliffe Olympic, Boston Town, Spalding United, Stamford, Lincoln United, Gedling Miners Welfare and Grantham Town while with the Imps.
In April 2006, Loach moved on to Watford, Lincoln receiving £50,000 in compensation. Prior to breaking into the first team at Vicarage Road he went on further loan spells at Stafford Rangers, Morecambe and Bradford City.
Presumably making reference to his proposed move to the Blues, Loach tweeted earlier this evening: "So buzzing right now. Hopefully more will become clear soon."
Loach can be seen in action for Town’s academy in this short film.

His age, height, England U21 caps and the fact he is a local lad who supports Ipswich are all pluses.
My concern is why Watford are looking to replace him and whether he is worth spending a transfer fee on with all the free transfers currently available, including the ex-Hearts man who played for us tonight.
I trust Jewell, with the advice of Webster, to make the right decision however and if we do sign Loach then I would welcome him.
That's Kello out of the question then is it? Not sure who i would go for. Kello is cheaper, but Loach still has a way to go before reaching his prime at 24. COYB.
24 years old and has a long career ahead of him. Reading about he makes countless mistakes is harsh for someone who is only 24. He can only get better from now on, so i wouldn't be worried at all if we signed him!
News is Watford are on the brink of signing Cudicini. Hope someone isn't reading all this and then thinks that Loach can be offered ridiculously low wages because he wants to play for us so much
Without the Cudicini signing there probably wasn't an acceptance from Watford for Loach which we've been waiting on for a few weeks now. So Kello coming in on trial and Watford looking likely to getting their replacement all came together at once
Absolutely brilliant. Just as well Watford is where it is because I'm pretty sure Scott would walk to Portman road to sign.Great move by Paul. This guy will only get better with experience,
I was just resigning myself to ALB now I am confident the defence is being sorted. Would still take the Slovak as deputy as there only needs to be one injury.
