WT Actual F!?? on 16:50 - Jun 14 by Darth_Koont | A "viable alternative" is an oxymoron in British politics. It's cosmetics. We need to change the discussion not pander to this lowest-common denominator nonsense. |
That's not a new thought, people have been saying that for decades. It's a lovely idea though.

Well. Let's just keep doing the same thing expecting a different and better result. That seems smart. The first step, of course, is to identify and admit problems, not to pretend everything is hunky dory and we just need a few tweaks. It's weak nonsense like that which means systemic racism is still a thing in 2020. Not only that but certain structural inequalities are even getting worse.

Good luck to all of us, mate. I'm grimly fascinated by where all this is going to end up. Although I think I'd move to an independent Scotland anyway.

Strategically Labour missed an open goal against May. They should have been a little more centrist to get elected, and then moved to the left as they gained confidence / support.

Whatever. It's pointless posturing if it's not what people believe is objectively best. They were given no chance until Corbyn started promoting progressive policies that the electorate largely agreed with.

That's the key, getting in! A little more moderate, he would have got in... and then been in a position to be progressive. Tactically naive.

We had three terms of Labour under Blair and then Brown but they barely shifted the dial in terms of progressive policies and debate. Because that's the problem with cosying up to the status quo, you can't then get the support to change it.

Blair was about as left wing as Boris! Lol

Agreed. Better than Boris, of course, but still didn't provide a viable alternative in any real sense. Just a slowing of our slide to the right. We could and should be having a very important and interesting debate as a country if there was any commitment to progressive policies. Instead it looks like we're back to the empty suits and different colour ties again. Yawn.
