There's a good book by Simon Garfield called 'The Wrestling' about that golden age - including a particularly gruesome story about Les Kellett and an infected finger.
I used to work at the Corn Exchange and wrestling nights were brutal - and that's just the pensioners in the crowd. I once made Jackie 'Mr TV'' Pallo a cup of tea.
