Fruit and veg growing successes and failures.... 11:27 - Jul 17 with 2279 viewsBanksterDebtSlave

At the risk of this becoming heated.....my French beans are like triffids this year, falling over currants and cherries but this years epic fail is blueberries (late Spring cold plus hail maybe.)

Over to the rest of you boring old and prematurely old folk!

This year I have mostly learned that slugs can burrow.

Planted up to 40 mange tout.

I think I currently have 4 plants.

Decimated by slugs the horrible slimy little ****s.

Sorry to hear about the blight. It's sickening when you lose a batch of anything.

I skim read that, I couldn't be arsed to take it all in.

So, are you implying my Pak Choi are under some kind of duress?

I mean, FFS! I spend most of my time worrying that my family are ok, are you suggesting I have to worry about vegetables?

These are skills necessary to learn in time for the apocalypse.

Don't dismiss it, it could happen.

And you might be able to feed the family nice green fresh pak choi if you take it all on board now.

Alternatively, invest in goats. They will eat anything and a great source of protein if all else fails.

I am eating the first of our purple gooseberries right now....bloody luvverly they are too, masses of them as well! Thinking of offering free p.y.o. on the currants as still have frozen from last year too.

Gooseberries are pointless, foul tasting and furry. My neighbour has gooseberry bushes growing along a wall and I once made the mistake of saying I loved a gooseberry and now get a shed load every year. This year he has informed me he has had a plague of the gooseberry caterpillar which has right enough eaten all the leaves but not the green furry useless fruit. When I asked if he has seen the little rascals in action he said don't be silly, as they attack at approx 3 am in the morning. Nature ehh, in his defense he has some lovely rhubarb and blackberries each year too.
Sorry if this is you BDS BTW.

I like gooseberries but am yet to try any from my solitary (healthy) plant.

The birds get to the fecker every single time before I do.

At least someone's enjoying them I suppose.
