Never really got going and never put Stanley under any real pressure either.

No-one played badly or didn’t put in the effort but very little clicked and we could barely get any possession in the Stanley half.

Need to regroup and work out what went wrong there.

The same thing that went wrong for large parts against Morecambe, at Burton in the first half, at Cheltenham in the second, Bolton… it’s nothing new.

In those games the defence was the worry and you saw more from our midfield and attack. Today looked very much the other way around and it was our attack that looked pretty clueless – and we never succeeded in pulling the team up the pitch.

We only moved up right at the end and that was more because Stanley dropped back. But a real worry that we couldn’t pressure them in the 80 minutes before then.

The failure to dominate a match falls to central midfield yet again. Our best performance of the season in those terms probably came against Wednesday where Carroll and El Mizouni we’re paired up. Even against Doncaster we started both halves slow, giving the ball way sloppily, and it was pretty even before the first and third goals, at which point we were able to turn the screw.

We need bite, we need a will to battle to fight, almost sink to the opponent’s level of scrapping yet, for some reason, we seem completely incapable of it.
