Well I hope to his Ashton’s feeling the pressure on 23:44 - Dec 15 by HARRY10
We had just won away at Lincoln City.
Let that sink in..............Lincoln Bloody City, that's who
And this clown was celebrating as if we have beaten Real Madrid away
So you were contented when Evans didn’t show his face for five years then. So Ashton showed a bit of passion. I don’t think it was the wisest thing to do, but a bit of passion at our first win of the season isn’t the worst thing. Does this make him a clown? Or have you swallowed the Bristol City hate brigade’s repeated accusations?
If you have actual evidence to call him a clown, tell us and tell him. I gather he’s open to questions for people. Let us know his response.

Ashton has said he was one of several who work on identifying new players, you can guess the WBA players were perhaps those he pushed for and several ex Cook players were obviously Cook's, however the scouts also give their reports on them and data analysts do too - so it's lots of people at the club agree on the players - are we were all happy with them too!
Ashton also said all the owners agreed to get rid of Cook which made it sound like the decision was made above Ashton.
I don't understand the need for people on here to always have a scapegoat to blame for everything, last week it was Cook now Ashton, if Ashton leaves now who will it be next week - the tea lady???

Don’t worry, Ashton will be around as long as O’Leary is around…they came to Ipswich as a pair.
Don’t get me wrong, Cook deserves much of the criticism, but what the f**k is a CEO and Chairman doing identifying / recommending players in the first place. It’s not their remit, nor their skillset. This is the “footballer wannabe” in Ashton.
Is the whole recruitment team now under Gary Probert - football operations? Scouts, Analysts, the lot?

He did one of two things. Either completely indulged PC's demolition man antics, put full faith in him to identify 19 players to fit his own style of play, than sacked him as soon as the going got tough.
Or he played a more significant role in the player turnover. Either way it's quite valid for questions to be asked.
You don't need to listen to anyone from Bristol to see it. But when you do see it you see worrying parallels with what they have said.
No, I judge people by what they do, not what others allege. Evidence.
The board backed Cook. Ashton queried the approach and everyone high in the club agreed with it. Cook provided a list of players and was backed. Cook brought in his coaches and was backed. 90% on here wanted him fired. The owners, CEO, Chairman wanted him fired. He was
The question to be ask is why was he let go without a replacement, what is the next step, what are the expectations and when? If you think he’s lied, challenge him. Let’s have the proof. Not just assumptions based on the weird hate of others who are lucky to follow a snugly placed club with a new ground and ever increasing turnover and endlessly peruse a bloke on somebody else’s message board.
I know a new hate figure is needed. I just prefer it based on what people do not what others say. Each to their own.

Questioning Ashton's role isn't scapegoating. It's actually the reverse. It's accepting that the root cause of the current problems is more than simply PC was a crap manager and all will be good once the next one is in post. That's scapegoating.
19 signings was a high risk strategy that's currently backfiring. Ashton and PC both played their part.
Ashton gets to stay on and fix the mess of their joint making. Let's hope it's something we get to agree he demonstrates significant improvement on in the upcoming window.

Evidence? Proof? This is a football forum not a law court!
It is my OPINION that mistakes were made at CEO level in the summer. And they set the football club back months if not years. And if it's alright with you I'd like to share that opinion with other suffers of this mess of a football club. Okay?

Cook wanted last seasons wasters gone long before Ashton. He explained why and was backed. How is Ashton at fault for backing Cook? Should he not have backed him and insisted last season mob were retained? Which way round do you want it? Backing or meddling?
It was Cooks players and coaches. They under performed and have gone. If the next appointment is a failure, fine, dish out the Bristol City hate. In the meantime, ask why a new manager wasn’t sorted before Cook was booted. What happened to leave this vacuum? Now that’s a valid question that needs an answer.

I think it’s pretty fair to say that Ashton will’ve been working for Ipswich in advance of official start date, in fact he alluded to it in an early interview. He was placed on gardening leave by City before it was announced he was leaving officially. It happens, just like when he rejoined us in Jan 2015, he was here already unofficially in Dec 2014. Likewise, Richard Gould our new CEO was doing work for us whilst he finished up at Surrey CCC. Paul Cook doesn’t demolish the squad early close season without Ashton’s involvement. You’re incredibly naive if you think that.

IMO it's fine, in fact healthy, for a CEO to set boundaries for a manager to work within. To say 19 is too many, or that it will be achieved over 2-3 windows.
The bit that scares me the most is that he came in, recognised the lack of staff in all departments of the club and went ahead with recruitment at this level without an adequate recruitment team. And if you want evidence of that it's from Mark Ashton. He made it clear when spending 30 minutes telling us all how active he was in the recruitment.
