I take your point, although I suppose it could be argued that it is a matter of scale in terms of the potential world-wide consequences of the Russians - or at least of Putin.

What is indisputable is that Gergiev, who was formerly Chief Conductor of the LSO, became VERY unpopular with the orchestral musicians who were over the moon when he went and Sir Simon Rattle returned to replace him.

I think the fact that Gergiev is a close personal friend of Putin adds to the pressure on him.
