I don't know much about this so I'm prepared to be shot down in flames, but isn't the UK housing situation one big perpetual greed-driven bubble? Isn't the UK population more or less stable? If so why are there constant calls for building more houses, "Ooh, we NEED 300,000 more houses built per year" seems to be trotted out all the time. As I say I don't really understand it all, but it seems to me that the 'need' is to keep the expansionist bubble growing and to line developers' and speculators' pockets, and the cost is often paid by the 'development' of areas of beautiful countryside. In which case I am all for the whole rotten system to crash. |
