Anyone else revised their opinion in the last few games over who to keep? 10:55 - Apr 19 with 1940 viewsSTYG

I've said a few times that I think Bakinson will be some player and that I'd like to keep him. We missed him big time against Cambridge, but I still think he's got way too many parts of his game to improve to be 'oven-ready' for next season on reflection.

Celina is absolute class on his day. That can't be denied. It has to be remembered he had COVID, no pre-season and is playing with strikers that don't score. I'd expected more but for me he has to be signed.

Aluko might just be my favourite player and Chaplin will stay. So the question is do we keep and rotate the three for two places each week - which I think will happen or do people feel we can upgrade here - in which case do we not extend Aluko or not pursue Celina permanently? Personally, I think these three are good enough with two new strikers and when if the team was scoring and teams were having to chase a goal then the three of them would run riot. The low numbers are, in part, due to teams sitting in and us not having goals to change that.

Obviously, we need a left-sided defender to go with two strikers and I think Evans is decent, but to me we need to forget Bakinson now (unless he's going to compete with Evans as a backup) and have to build the team around Morsy and one other outstanding League One player or Championship player that will either add a lot of goals and help us tick over, will add a lot of steel or both.

Tyreeq looks good against teams that give us time but as soon as he is under pressure or it's a real physical battle he seems hit and miss. We need someone in there like Holland in terms of consistency, an 8/10 every week type. That central area is crucial to everything McKenna wants the team to do from how we build attacks to how we protect the defence.

As Oxford look like missing out, Brannigan would be the one for me, can score, tackle, pass, put himself about and takes set pieces. We have the financial muscle to make them an offer they can't say no to.

Strongly suspect we will be back in for Crooks this year if Boro don’t go up, and the guy from Hull too the CM.
I’d be very surprised if we did any buys from our current league or the one below. This lot are determined to get the best quality in that they can. Hopefully we can nail Celina down.

You were worried about Morsy's discipline the other day. I think I saw that Crooks is the most booked player in the Championship this season?

We have no chance of getting Crooks at all as his value has no doubt doubled since last summer. But with Morsy and Crooks we'd need about 8 midfielders to cover suspensions lol.

If we managed to sign Matt Crooks this Summer then give Our backroom team the keys to the Town. Absolutely no chance that is going to happen.

Poll: Will Paul Lambert be Ipswich Town manager on the final day of this season ?

Good chance Boro will want him off the wage bill if they don’t make it. There could well be a lot of rich pickings like that for us this summer with a lot of champ level clubs desperately looking to bear down on their overheads.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!
Poll: With Evans taking 65% in Huddersfield, is the Banter Era over?

I wonder if that would somehow be seen as negative though and desperate.

It won't happen. But if we didn't push the boat out to go to £1.5m or £2m or whatever was needed to get Crooks done, then a year later paid the £3m or £4m he'd be worth after impressing in the Championship, it would no doubt be seen as not having conviction in the signing first time around or throwing money away now.

Definitely a negative spin to be put on that by some, even if we pulled it off (which quite simply we won't). Would be funny though to imagine how much it would annoy Paul Warne.
