I’ve enjoyed watching the women’s Euros 20:32 - Jul 20 with 2344 views | Chrisd | Tonight’s games between England and Spain is shaping up nicely and I feel now is where you’ll see some really competitive games, but why do they make comparisons with the men’s game? For example, Ellen White is a couple of goals behind Wayne Rooney’s all time England record. Surely, it’s two separate entities and any comparison or record should be made across their respective games, not across the genders? [Post edited 20 Jul 2022 20:42]

I’ve enjoyed watching the women’s Euros on 08:12 - Jul 21 by Hong_Kong_Bluey | Ugh, annoyingly I need to bite on something and run for cover. ArnieM puts across a decent argument. And you also seem reasonable. I just think maybe there's something you haven't considered. I've tried watching mens baseball as an example. It has a huge fanbase so there must be something to it. But I just don't like it or enjoy watching it. This doesn't make me a baseball'ist, or sexist against the gender playing that game. It just means I don't enjoy watching it. Same goes for women's football. It's great that you guys enjoy watching it. I just don't. This does not mean I hate women. It just means I don't enjoy the level of women's football. I apologise if this makes me "wrong". But it does not make me or any man who comments negatively about women's football terrified of women, or physically / athletically weak either. Or for that matter, have any other agenda apart from the fact we think it's a bit rubbish. That's all. [Post edited 21 Jul 2022 8:13]

You are entitled not to enjoy it, but I think that's a funny way to think of it. For me, football is football. I reckon that if the games were put into a computer programme and the players were made to look like men then a lot of people watching wouldn't bat an eyelid and would happily watch it. From the games I've seen, it has been absolutely far from "rubbish". The football played at these Euros has been very entertaining, far more so than many Prem games I've watched (and should get even better now we're into the knockout stages and the standard between teams is more even). It seems to me that some people would rather watch a one-shot-on-target 0-0 draw between (say) Crystal Palace and Everton because it's a men's Premier League match than watch England beat Spain 2-1 in an exciting match because they are women. You might not have household names performing, but you do have elite athletes playing with incredible technical ability. Plus, you don't get diving, feigning injury or mouthing off at the referee every 3 or 4 minutes. For that alone it's better than watching the men! Totally with you on baseball though - what a load of rubbish!

I’ve enjoyed watching the women’s Euros on 21:05 - Jul 20 by Chrisd | I know what you’re saying, but the comparison for me is based from their own respective games and should be separated by gender. Although the woman’s game has made significant strides forward, the levels are different, there’s no escaping that. [Post edited 20 Jul 2022 21:09]

But then are they really? A big chunk of Rooneys goals came against tiny nations, same with Kane. The level doesn't really matter.
