Not necessarily in the right order 20:34 - Oct 8 with 1519 viewsMullet

I saw a spurt of blood out of the corner of my eye as some old boy went one way, then another as his glasses disappeared during the warm up. A broken nose on first glance was more likely his specs cutting the bridge of his nose. At full time, Kyle Edwards ran over to give him his shirt long after his colleagues had gone, and the boy begging for it via his Dad was left disappointed.

Maybe younger fans will feel disappointed that we didn't just steamroll Morecambe, but of all the "lesser" teams I've seen us play they had the best plan for dealing with us. No space in behind for us to catch fire in, two on one when a runner got free one to block, one to challenge. Whichever way the freekick went, so be it.

You might argue it's anti-football but Ripley did warn us and he took his abuse like his goal kicks. Slowly and with savour in every half step and ten seconds past.

Nothing seemed to be coming off for Town and Morecambe showed that set pieces are the best way to even up the disparity in quality. Whether they'd rehearsed that or not, we'll not concede many goals like that this season.

I didn't think Keogh had a very good game in the first half at all. Whether it was adjusting to our system, or just the fact that the game and the side weren't at it I'm not sure, but it was a good barometer of how all that changed when his name was sung the most at full time.

Morsy might feel hard done by given how well he ran the second half and was in the most space in the first. Chaplin missed the first penalty but he'd been missing passes all game, It was a relief when Evans fired us into the lead from the spot having had one shout rejected in the first half and the most obvious one given and then wasted.

With the lead wrestled away, the changes really set us and the hosts apart. A clearly offside goal aside they hadn't troubled the keeper or the woodwork anywhere near as much as Town had. After his heroics in midweek, Edwards really stood out with his flair and have a go attitude. His touch in the first half to kill an overhit pass stone dead was a lonely reminder of his skill, but after the break it was players like him that heaped on the pressure.

Fridge despatching the equaliser seemed inevitable as did the win, but many of the away fans were less certain. Whether this was another case of McKenna's changes not working, because the opposition simply changed enough to mean they counted for little, or it's just the sort of hard win that stamps our credentials a little deeper into the season who knows?

Rum old day though.

Today was a good day for winning and getting by. The first 15 mins of the second half suggested that Mckenna had organised us during the break.Edwards switching sides helped. Personally I'll take a scrappy win.

Hopefully the shirt-begging kid learnt a lesson today. Was it Edwards’ wayward shot that did the damage to the old fella?

OP: thanks for your report. I think it’s easy to dismiss the opponents game ( not saying you did at all btw), but I reckon if Morecambe approach the remaining games like they did against us they do g be relegated. I think they gave us more problems than any other team have this season. They face it a good go and had us on the back foot for that first half. But we re grouped at half time, went up the gears and got a very good snd hard fought 3 points. That’s what gets you promoted.

It’ll be interesting to see how we do when these yellow cards start taking effect . My fear is they’ll all take effect in the Derby game (I’m assuming Evans / Morsy picking up yellows v Lincoln). You’d almost want to tactically stagger each player getting his 5th yellow. But it is what it is and we’ll deal with it when it happens.

Was in the warm up, I thought he was going to stay down but he looked fine at full time thankfully. The kid got an autograph but I find it weird when grown men join in.

The far end of the terrace was closed so it felt weirdly packed. Someone/a few seemed to vape constantly through the game, never realised how weirdly unpleasant it is until you're huffing on perfume all game.

Some people thought Morsy got booked yesterday, likewise a Morecambe player got carded at full time presumably for mouthing off at the ref. I think with Ball missing it create a problem, but we have such a squad it should be ok.

Remember when we went to Hillsbrough with Bakinson and El Miz as our CMs last season?
