Sam Morsy on 19:32 - Oct 15 with 986 views | Plums | He was; at one point he had a shot blocked on the edge of their box and was the first player back to stifle the break in our right back position. Astonishing energy and desire.

Unfortunately felt like Chaplin, Harness, Evans and Burns had horrible days unfortunately so many stray passes and awful finishing. A shame the crowd never had much to get buzzing about such a contrast to the Pompey game. Just back from the game will be interested to read Mckennas comments. For the first 35 mins we were so casual even after a week off. Expected us to come out of the traps and go at them but there was very little drive or runs. It wasn’t really surprising that we got the sucker punch , had we gone out for an early goal it could have been totally different game. I think McKenna is brilliant and the team to date very motivated but for whatever reason they had a total off day. Been to most of the home games this season, really thought on paper this would be one of the easier ones.

“ “We didn’t start the game how we wanted to start it, we didn’t manage to create the same atmosphere or pressure or intensity in the game that we’ve managed to do in our home games this season in general. “And if you don’t do that, of course, then the minutes tick by and the opposition are just waiting for that one set play. And if you don’t defend your set play well enough and you give them a cheap goal, then it makes it a difficult challenge, much, much, much more difficult again.” Pretty much!
Sam Morsy on 09:53 - Oct 16 with 575 views | DJR | From my own point of view, I don't think Morsy has been as effective from an attacking point of view this season as he was last season following McKenna's switching of him to a more attacking player. He is excellent when it comes on to holding onto the ball but this season he has had a habit of meandering sideways or when he advances forward failing to make an incisive pass. Yesterday was a case in point, and it is games like this which makes me realise virtually all our goals come from out wide, which makes us rather predictable. Of course, it is possible that teams have adapted to counter Morsy (as they have with Burns) but it does make me think that we lack a Celina or Fraser with the ability on the ball to unlock teams from a more central area. I might add that one of the issues with playing sideways or diagonally as Evans and Morsy tend to do is that it allows teams like Lincoln to regroup defensively which makes breaking them down even more difficult. Finally, one thing that struck me yesterday was that all our corners were outswingers. I am no expert, but when I played I thought inswinging corners were more effective from an attacking point of view. [Post edited 16 Oct 2022 9:54]
