For some reason (probably my scatty brain) I’ve recently decided I want to get a deeper knowledge on the history of countries in SE Asia, particularly the political discourse and darker events of the last century.

Any good docs/podcasts people recommend? Books also welcome, alas I get through them at a much slower rate.

Cheers

I have spent many happy times exploring and working in SE Asia. An excellent and fascinating read is The Golden Chersonese
by Isabella Lucy Bird. She was a brave Victorian adventurer and travelled throughout the region. Available on Amazon.

SE and Far East Asian travelling has enriched my life so much. I think I gained more in a week in Japan than any other week in my life.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Ken Burns’ series The Vietnam War is highly recommended.

Update, found the In The Shadow of Utopia podcast which seems good 3 episodes in.
