Goal Kicks 19:11 - Dec 1 with 939 views | Woolfenthen | Why are Goalkeepers allowed to take a goal kick from the other side of the box from where the ball went out, I'm sure back in the day you had to take them from the side it went out, stop this, you would stop a fair amount of time wasting imo. Makes little sense when you have to take a corner from the side it goes out, wheres the difference??

Exactly by allowing anywhere within the six-yard box, it meant the goalkeeper could take it quickly. The interpretation has then been that the goalkeeper may take as long as they like to walk it to the furthest part of the six-yard box, dig a trench to take it from and eventually take it. There should be a time limit to take a goal kick, or you get booked and a free kick to the opposition, rather like having the ball in the goalkeeper's hands (although that rule rarely seems to be applied now either).
