Is this man a Tory in disguise? on 10:12 - Dec 12 by DJR | Starmer has just doubled-down on Streeting's criticism. The issue I have with this, in particular, is that it mirrors the really nasty campaign the Mail has been running against GPs, which is designed to make it seem that is the doctors, rather than the government, which are responsible for the crisis in the health service. |
Somewhere they have a focus group. Tossers, the lot of them.

Yes, it strikes me they are trying to win over Mail voters with their stance.

At heart, they’re right-wingers who hate anything approaching social democracy. It’s hardly much of a flex for them.

What an odd concept in politics. Lose an election by almost 3 and a half million votes, and then attempt to win the next one by trying to win over some of those 3 and a half million people who voted for the Tories and get them to vote for you. It'll never catch on.

So they’re courting the same subsection of Red Wall voters and media billionaires with pretty much the same policies as the Tories and people think that’s a good thing? No wonder we get such crap politicians and inadequate policies. Ultimately democratic politics exists to represent people and help them not just for the parties, their fanboys and Rupert Murdoch.

They're already doing quite well as it is without having to sell their souls. The problem is if that if they pander too much to the Mail, they will find themselves under their thumb for the whole of their time in power, much as the Blair/Brown Labour government were. It also strikes me as reflecting the type of timidity that the early Blair government showed, when they could have afforded to be much more radical and different from the Tories because the mood had changed. I think there is also the danger that they will alienate some voters who may not vote for them, or just not vote at all with photographic voter ID imminent. Part of the reason Tory governments have been elected is that a sizeable number of public sector workers have voted for them. So why, at this stage, antagonise health workers and risk the same? Another interesting point is that the SNP approach to pay (a deal has just been announced) appears to be in sharp contrast to the line that both the Tories and Labour seem to be taking, which in turn could affect the Labour vote in Scotland. “ The problem is if that if they pander too much to the Mail” Can’t see Mail readers voting for Labour whom ever is in charge. They think Truss was a leftie liberal…

You'd be surprised. If you look at the most viewed comments below political articles in the Mail (which I do to get a feel of things), they currently seem to despise the Tories. And they saw through the ludicrous Mail campaign to get Truss elected. The thing is that they are a bit all over the place, with some probably shunting off to the Reform Party, but polls clearly indicate that many who voted Tory at the last election have moved to Labour, albeit not with necessarily much enthusiasm.
