Going to have a nice winter BBQ tomorrow 13:23 - Dec 16 with 5577 viewsMalcolmMeatballHead

An old flame of mine has been in touch and wants to come see me tomorrow so I'm thinking of having a winter BBQ with her. The thought of sitting around a BBQ eating nice food and chatting is something I'm looking forward to. It's only a disposable one and is left over from summer.

Just thought I'd share something positive for a change. It's not to everyone's liking but I'm really looking forward to tomorrow and wanted to share with you

I was convinced you were wrong until about 5 minutes ago. I grew up on the Chalkstone estate, about 100 meters away from what we were all told was the River Stour. (which we would spend most of the summer wading around in) Just realised my entire childhood was a lie

That was the overflow from the combined storm and foul drainage you were playing in, they built a new treatment plant and piped it to it Now. 😂

We used to play about 100 meters after the sewage plant. There was a lot of foam on top of the water.... Kids today don't know their born!

The beautiful Stour gently flowing through the Chalkstone estate in Haverhill...

Now there's a fine example of juxtaposition if anyone needed one.

Actually in isolation Chalkstone sounds nice doesn't it. Conjures up some white cliffs sort of image.

You know what, I believe I may have as it goes.

I was a kid then so no pint, probably a coke, but yes, I went in there a few times I'm sure.

If it had a couple of pool tables, otherwise I'm wrong.

An uncle worked the market there for my dad then and I was sometimes dumped off to keep my cousin company, as kids were. Anywhere that retailed in alcohol would be on friendly terms with that particular uncle.

Yer, was pool tables and tvs in the front and snooker tables out the back. Was one of the more pleasant places 80,s kids were dropped off for a coke and a pack of crisps by family members

Spot on Gainsborough. Think it does start somewhere close to the beautiful low rolling hills of Thurlow

Oh... so not the sunny uplands we were promised but are proving to be very elusive...

Not sure the stour runs to Haverhill does it? Or should I say flows through..? Either way I think it’s the wrong river..

Stour runs through Kedington, which is only three miles from Haverhill.

It's only a matter of time before kitten becomes a suburb of the metropolis of Haverhill....
