And another thing 19:05 - Jan 21 with 831 viewsTalkingBlues

we've employed more staff than the Met Police around the first team squad, but not one of them knew the league rules regarding match postponements due to fog? Not one of the staff there thought before the game, or even at half time (worst case) that it might be an idea to look it up? Finally, did I read it right that McKenna basically agreed to finish the game cos he felt we could get a goal? Bloody hell man, what an absolute mess on and off the pitch today was, players were poor and so was the knowledge base and decision making of the coaching team.

Refs don't take advice on the rules of the game from managers. It's up to the ref to know the rules. It's pathetic to attack McKenna over this.

There are some genuine questions you can ask of McKenna but this isn't one of them.

Truly impaired.

I'm not attacking McKenna specifically, I'm saying that our coaching team (collectively, someone in the group at least) should have known the regulations, but at the very least, if they didn't, they should have investigated them before the match, or at half time, when there looked to be a real possibility that fog was interfering with the game enough to call continued play into question. Had we been armed with the relevant information, McKenna would have been able to call into question the refs understanding of the rules during their conversation and they would then have had to seek clarification from other officials, at which point the game could rightly have been postponed.

McKenna seemed to suggest in his post match interview that he was happy to play the last 15 minutes in order to get a goal and win the game and for that I will specifically target him, because his understanding of the game was clearly different to mine, we had been appalling and at no point did we look likely to go on and secure victory, he had a golden opportunity to escape a bad day at the office with no loss of points and didn't take it.

Fog probably wasn’t the issue prematch but frost was.

Competition rules are different to the laws of the game. You would hope that we looked up the competition rules before the game in the case of an abandonment. The referee giving sh!t advice is shocking.

Yep, it's mental that it can actually happen from a ref, but equally you'd like to think someone in our camp knew the bloody laws of the game, or at least had the prudence to look them up given the circumstances, or even ask the 4th official. People are reacting to my suggestion like it's madness, but this is basic stuff that should form part of the overall game management strategy.

IMO it's really poor that we still had no understanding of the rules/regs by the 74th minute of the game.
