The House of Commons Public Accounts Committee today discussed the renovations needed to the Palace of Westminster (see the item at 16.53 on the following link).

If ever there were a metaphor for broken post-Brexit Britain, as well as the nonsense talked about Parliament taking back control, a crumbling Houses of Parliament is surely it.

As this report from a year ago indicates, the cost is staggering, and MPs are likely to have to vacate the premises for at least 19 years.

The sensible thing would be to build a state of the art venue in the middle of the country that is accessible, complete with accommodation. So fat chance of that happening.

Absolutely. Sadly, the country is obsessed with tradition.

To be honest, I don't even like the Gothic Revival style of the building.

I love the way so many of our True British Patriots know so little about the building. To listen to a lot of them, it's the building Guy Fawkes tried to blow up.

It dates from the 1830s. The chamber of the House of Commons is post-war, having been damaged by a WW2 bomb.

It's a level of ignorance on a par with believing the Princess Elizabeth drove an ambulance during the Blitz, or that Michael Foot was the best labour Prime Minister.
