On ifollow the camera angle didn't show the start of Davis' run so not sure the highlights will help much. It didn't look like he would have been offside but there were no serious complaints from the players. |

The incident is at about 26:55 match time (30:23 video time).
As you say you can't see Davis' position as Luongo plays the ball, but the outside Cheltenham defender (32) is facing the wrong way and has to turn to get after Davis, and is then only a yard or less behind Davis (lengthwise on the pitch) when Davis comes into shot. It then seems strange that Davis isn't further ahead of him if he had started from an offside position, given Davis was travelling fast towards goal.
Also, if you freeze frame when the ball is played the lino is pretty much on the mown line and consequently the furthest player from him would be falsely advance if anything. Hirst in the middle is inline but leaning forward well; I wonder if the lino gave him off. Wrongly. Even Burns who was right near him (and in an offside position) possibly half-obstructing his view.
Still, it's gone. Not worth a great big analysis!  |  |
