Our last 15 run put into perspective 17:48 - May 5 with 1147 viewsVegtablue

Not that we need it to appreciate what's just happened, but!

The 5th best side from the big 5 European leagues during this time was Barcelona, with 11 wins and 2 draws. This includes the top three divisions btw, for ENG, ITA, SPA, GER & FRA.
The 5th best form in Europe would have resulted in us being a point below Wednesday going into the final game, sending prayers to Derby while throwing up in the Fleetwood toilets.
The 3rd best form, Atlético Madrid's, would have seen us go into the final game still needing a draw.

Only top 2 form across the 15 leagues of the big 5 countries (because Tramsfermarkt couldn't be bothered to go further down the divisions) since our Bristol Rovers moment on 14th Feb would have got us to where we are today. And if we weren't making up that top spot ourselves then it would have needed to take Man City alone.

Some finish! COYB

People were derided on here and social media for questioning mckenna, but he didn't help himself with 3 or 4 random starting 11 changes every game for a few months. It's no coincidence that our best form came with zero changes to the starting 11 for weeks. Even the game he did try and change things up (Port Vale home) it was pretty squeaky bum.

I understand those changes now. He didn’t have a clear starting 11. Go with Edwards or Aluko or Harness, for example. It doesn’t really matter as they’ve all got their faults. Get Broady in and it’s a no brainer, he has to start. Same with Hirst, but he had to be eased in due to a lack of fitness.

I thought at the time he was managing the squad morale and fitness when rotating, but it was just that there wasn’t a clear best 11. In hindsight that’s obvious, as there were a core of players who’ve played pretty much every game when available.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Agree with this, it wasn’t rotation just for rotation’s sake, and I certainly think McK set us up in consideration of the opposition- do we want to go more physical up too, do we want to play more in the space in front of them etc…
