Arsenal: Bottle Job or not? 07:37 - May 16 with 3180 views | wkj | Some might say I have an obsession with Arsenal, which is fair to a degree. I wouldn't consider myself a fan, but they are a team I always enjoy seeing do well. There is a debate going on right now as to whether Arsenal did a bottle job or not. The two sides of the coin are Yes - Arsenal were 5 points clear and failed to win some easy game on paper. No - Arsenal finishing 2nd is above expectations as they were predicted to finish outside of top 4 It is fair to say Arsenal are thin with their squad depth and the winter world cup seemed to hit them hard defensively. Mind you, Man City lost their left back (João Cancelo) and have been playing centre halves there and have seemed to hit their peak for the season there after. Interesting debate imho. Man City are a very good team, but losing a 2 goal lead vs West ham and Liverpool (when they actually weren't that good) and drawing 3-3 (luckily at the end) vs Southampton at home shows they have bottled it a bit. As soon as there has been a bit of pressure on them, they've crumbled. Not sure if they've ran out of steam or injuries to the centre half is that vital, but they've have bottled it, just whether you think its a lot or little. Interesting some pundit said they'll never get a better chance to win the league. In a way yes because they were only in the Europa cup and didn't take it too seriously. Now they'll be in the Champions league and even with a bigger squad, will they be able to compete on more (important) fronts. I'm not sure. EDIT: Also had quite a few last minute winner goals earlier in the season and haven't had that recently. [Post edited 16 May 2023 14:11]
