All in all, a very good test and performance 08:22 - Aug 7 with 809 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | I think looking back on yesterday, it was a really good but tough opening game for us now regardless of the result. Echoing what McKenna said - we had good spells, we had spells under pressure, we have a lot to improve on and more importantly, it will be a lot of hard work and very demanding physically. Hopefully it's a real eye opener to those outside of the club to be humble about this season and take it game by game. It's not going to be easy at all but we have the principles correct through working hard, working together as a unit defensively and doing the right things with the ball. I'm looking forward to Saturday - both teams going into it off the back of a good start to the season.

There’s no way the likes of Mass and Broadhead will make every game if we are going to be played 100 plus minutes at that intensity every game. We are definitely going to need some reinforcements between now and the end of the window.

Definitely agree with that. I thought Luongo was brilliant yesterday too - it's his ability to relieve pressure by carrying the ball up the field which makes him so valuable. It's something Evans can't do so I'm hoping it's something Taylor can. I think we are 3 short - CB, CM & attacker. Just need to add quality and move one or two on for me.

Yep that’s how I see it too.

That same point holds for other teams as well. Some squads are going to be looking very ragged by Christmas. It's all very well to fully compensate for time when the ball is not in play, but that is also time when the players take a moment to catch their breath. We're either going to see more injuries (exhaustion leading to mistakes), or the general intensity of games will reduce. Attacking players rationing the number of full-speed runs they're prepared to make, for example, not chasing hopeful balls as hard.

All in all, a very good test and performance on 08:49 - Aug 7 with 637 views | textbackup | Sunderland away… first 15/20 they were always going to be on us, intense, fast etc. We weather the storm and had the best chances in first half, we controlled the game so well, but there will be times where we come unstuck, just need to learn from it

It will fizzle out over time. The refs are hot on it at the moment because it's a new law and they're being watched with eagle eyes. There will be a middle ground at some point, but for the first few weeks (probably until the international break), they'll be right on it and then I imagine there will be a review.

It'll be a massive learning curve. Sunderland aren't a bad side, I felt they relied more on the individual quality of Roberts and Clarke in particular to make it happen. Bellingham started sharp too before fading. I don't think we will play many teams with better threats direct down the flanks than Sunderland though so a really good test in that respect - but they didn't do enough in the final third as a team. No real shots to get a crowd going etc.
