Constantly having to reassess how far this group of players can go. 13:26 - Sep 27 with 1380 views | TheBoyBlue | Last night at 2-0 down, I assumed they'd reached their upper level, for now at least. And I was at peace with that. Premier League team - even their reserves - showing quicker speed of thought, more clinical in front of goal, etc, everything that you might expect. A big ask to be at their level so soon after coming up from League 1. Yet once we got going, we were comfortable, the better team in most departments, assured. This group of players - it seems - could hold their own as a lower end Premier League at the very least.

"If" we are still in a strong position after Christmas we need to think about which players will be moved on to make room for Prem level replacements. Make the changes in January and not once we are promoted. Must be hard to be a football player at times knowing that promotion ultimately seals your exit from the club...

Absolutely agree. But this team isn't a million miles off being a relatively decent bottom-end Premier League side. It sounds damning with faint praise, but it is a million miles off getting battered by Northampton or losing at home to Fleetwood!

Look at Burnley they absolutely smashed their way up. Whilst it’s a good while to go, chances are all 3 could be back down with a whimper. That’s no disparagement to our fantastic group of players, and I think a few of our players would make the grade, but let’s not underestimate the gulf between the two leagues.

Each match day you wanted to win but these were tough tough games. Yet we did what we did. This season so far has continued that same theme. Games where you think ah possible draw or loss here... then we go and win them. I honestly don't know how to predict this season.

Yes, there is a gulf and we have the rest of the autumn, winter and spring before or if we need to consider it. Let’s get to 45 points first! However, when GBs team got to the PL most thought we’d go straight back down. But his team had a cohesion, spirit and most important a way of playing that threw the predictions in the bin. A number of players were better than many thought too - not least Holland and Stewart. I see in McKenna’s team similar traits and some of our players might be better than we think. Who knows. It’s a long way to go and a bit of fun speculating, but let’s face it, in the first eight games we’ve surpassed our own, let alone others, expectations. Who knows what the meat of the season holds. We will have a bad spell. It’s how well we respond that’ll go a long way to determine how good we are. Most important, the club is moving forwards. That’s the key to this.
